PRINCETON, N.J. (3/5/14) - The Princeton women's lacrosse team begins its run for the 2014 Ivy League title when opens league play at Brown on Saturday, March 7 at 1 p.m.
EYE ON THE TIGERSPrinceton is 1-2 on the season with both losses coming to nationally ranked teams. Most recently the Tigers suffered a 17-16 overtime setback to No. 14 Georgetown last Saturday. Juniors Erin McMunn and Erin Slifer are the team's top two scorers. McMunn has 11 points on five goals and six assists. Slifer has six goals and three assists. Sophomore Alexandra Bruno also has six goals and adds one assist for seven points. Freshman Olivia Hompe's six-point game versus Georgetown pushed her into third place in scoring with seven points. Classmate Anna Doherty chips in five gaols, while senior Sarah Lloyd and sophomore Anya Gersoff have four tallies apiece. Senior defender Colleen Smith is the team leader in caused turnovers with six and ground balls with five, while being second on the team in draw controls with seven. The Erin duo combine for 15 draws. Senior goalie Caroline Franke has started in three games and has a .388 save percentage and a 11.58 goals against average. Junior Annie Woehling and freshman Ellie DeGarmo have also seen time, although limited, in goal as well.
THE SERIES
Princeton leads the all-time series with Brown 32-3 since it began in 1980. The Tigers have won the last 23 meetings with Brown's last win coming in 1991. Last year the Tigers won an 18-11 game at home handing Brown its first loss of the season. It marked the first time Princeton has allowed Brown to score in double digits since 2003.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Brown is 3-0 on the season and is 1-0 in the Ivy League after topping Columbia 9-6 in New York last Saturday. The Bears defeated Iona 17-4 and Sacred Heart 19-6 in back-to-back games on Feb. 22 & 23 in Providence. Seniors Bre Hudgins and Danielle Mastro lead the team offensively with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Hudgins has nine goals and three assists, while Mastro has six goals and four assists. Senior Grace Healy and sophomore Lauren Toy both have eight points and junior Janie Glon chips in seven points. Healy and Hudgins are the leaders around the circle with 14 and 13 draw controls. Senior middie Erin Roos has caused a team-high five turnovers and adds six ground balls. Freshman Kerianne Hunt has the most pickups with nine ground balls to her credit. Junior Kellie Roddy has started in goal in all three games. She has a 4.02 GAA and a .654 save percentage with 17 saves on 26 shots. Sophomore Victoria Holland has seen action in two games and has three saves on 10 shots in 45 minutes of play.
