September 05, 2014 | Women's Lacrosse
PRINCETON, N.J. (9/6/14) - Princeton head women's lacrosse coach Chris Sailer is pleased to announce the addition of Jane Karger to her coaching staff. Karger will serve as the team's volunteer assistant coach.
Karger is no stranger to Princeton lacrosse as she has worked the Women's Lacrosse Camps for nearly a decade.
"We are lucky indeed to be able to add a volunteer coach of Jane's knowledge and experience to the Tiger coaching staff," Sailer said. "Goalies are such a specialized position, and having a coach who played the position in college and who is an expert in teaching it will tremendously benefit the three goalkeepers in our program. Successful goalkeeping combines technical skill, quickness, understanding of angles, stick handling and decision making, fearlessness, resilience, and the ability to vocally direct and lead a defensive unit. We're excited for the impact Jane will have on every facet of our goalkeepers' development and, ultimately, the success of our team."
Karger works locally at Ultimate Lacrosse after spending eight years in college coaching, most recently at the University of Connecticut.
Karger was an assistant coach at UConn from 2012-14, working primarily with the defense and goalies. She helped to develop a two-time all-Region and all-BIG EAST goalie Shannon Nee and helped guide the team to its first BIG EAST postseason appearance and subsequent NCAA tournament appearance in 2013. In 2014, the Huskies had their best finish in the BIG EAST regular-season conference standings. Karger managed all team travel, including transportation and meals, and was hands on in recruitment and scouting. Karger earned a Master's Degree in educational psychology while coaching in Storrs.
Prior to joining the UConn staff, Karger was an assistant coach at Central Connecticut State from 2011-12. That season proved to have record-breaking success as the Blue Devils set or tied program marks for the most conference wins, best home record and best record in program history. Karger coached the NEC Goalie of the Year Erin DeLancey as part of NEC Coach of the Year Kelly Nangle's staff.
Additional coaching experience includes one year at Connecticut College in 2010-11 and at her alma mater Mount St. Mary's from 2008-10.
A 2008 graduate of Mount St. Mary's, Karger earned a degree in German with a double minor while being the goalkeeper on the lacrosse team. She earned a NEC All-Tournament selection, three NEC Academic Honor Roll accolades and was invited to the North/South Division I All-Star Game. She served as team captain in both her junior and senior years. The Mountaineers competed in the conference tournament in each of her seasons and won two regular-season titles in 2005 and 2007. The 2005 NEC Championship team earned an NCAA tournament berth. and captured the 2005 Championship and accompanying NCAA Tournament berth.
