Tigers Even Ivy Record With Sweep Of Dartmouth, Eye Crucial Penn Match
January 12, 2015 | Women's Squash
Princeton had lost its Ivy League opener Saturday against Harvard, but following its return from the finals break, the Tigers will host Penn Jan. 28 in the second half of a men's/women's doubleheader against the Quakers. Both matches will be streamed on the Ivy League Digital Network.
Princeton didn't have any margin for error Sunday, but there wasn't much error throughout the performance. The Tigers won 27 of 28 individual games and dominated the first shift to take full control against the Big Green.
"I thought the team rebounded well today after a tough match Saturday," head coach Gail Ramsay said. "Alex Lunt had a slow start but was able to control the play better and better. Her opponent start to feel the pressure by the start of the fourth game."
Princeton was in full control from the start, winning each match of the opening shift by a 3-0 score. Senior Nicole Bunyan, who won a thrilling five-game match Saturday over Harvard, dropped only five points in her win at No. 3.
Both Rachel Leizman and Gabriella Garr were also strong in their wins.
Princeton clinched the win with a sweep of the second shift. The early drama came on the middle court, as Halliew Dewey had to go deep into the opener before winning 15-13 in the first game over Sarah Caughey at the No. 5 spot. Dewey, as well as Maria Elena Ubina and Tara Harrington, cruised the rest of the way.
Princeton senior captain Alex Lunt split her first two games against Helena Darling at No. 4, but she dropped only three points in the final two games. The freshman duo of Olivia Fiechter and Kira Keating both won to finish the Tiger sweep.
