January 27, 2015 | Men's Volleyball
Despite strong performances from senior Cody Kessel and sophomore Junior Oboh, the Princeton men's volleyball team fell 3-0 to fourth-ranked UC-Irvine Monday night. Princeton will wrap up its three-match California trip Wednesday night at UC-San Diego.
Irvine hit over .300 in each set, including a .591 performance in the opener, to claim a 25-14, 25-19, 25-22 victory over Princeton, which fell to 1-4 in a five-match streak where the Tigers have faced nothing but Top-15 opponents.
The Tigers got stronger throughout the match and actually outhit Irvine .370-.320, but the hosts ran off three straight points at 17-17 and never looked back to clinch its eighth win of the season.
Kessel led the Princeton attack with 16 kills and added three digs and a service ace, while Oboh added 10 kills and a .562 hitting performance in the match. Classmate Chris Kennedy had 29 assists and matched both senior libero Tony Ensbury and freshman outside Kendall Ratter with a team-best five digs.
