HANOVER, N.H. (10/3/15) - A goal in the 10th minute decided the game as Dartmouth defeated Princeton 1-0 in men's soccer on Saturday at Burnham Field.
Dartmouth's Sten Stray-Gunderson got the ball on the left flank in front of the Princeton bench and serviced the ball into the 18-yard box. Defender Josh Miller and Eduvie Ikoba gave chas. The ball hit Miller and he got tripped up right as Ikoba kicked the ball out ahead and out of reach. Despite a valiant effort by Patrick Barba to stop Amadu Kunateh who was running in he couldn't get there in time and Kunateh tapped in the would-be game winner.
It was a tale of two halves, as Princeton held better possession in the second half and kept knocking on the door, while Dartmouth did everything it could to defend its lead.
The Tigers took eight shots to the Big Green's one but Stefan Cleveland was the difference maker, earning five saves in the shutout.
Senior Ben Hummel made two saves in goal, including a diving save in the 21st minute.
Kunateh was on the receiving end of a red card in the 25th minute, sending Dartmouth down a man. The Big Green received three more cards in the game, as Ikoba, Matt Greer and the bench were assessed.
Princeton (3-3-1, 0-1 Ivy) finished the game outshooting Dartmouth (4-3-1, 1-0 Ivy) 11-6 and took twice as many corner kicks, 4-2.
The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday night when they host Seton Hall in a non-conference match at 7 p.m.
