October 31, 2015 | Men's Soccer
Princeton's men's soccer team led in every stat but the one that counted most Saturday at Roberts Stadium as Cornell used a penalty kick and a goal with less than seven minutes to play to beat the Tigers 2-1.
Princeton dropped to 7-5-2 and 1-3-1 overall with the loss while Cornell picked up its fourth win of the season overall and second in Ivy play.
The loss came despite Princeton outshooting the Big Red 25-9 overall and 9-5 on goal while more than doubling the number of corner-kick opportunities, 9-4.
The penalty kick came in the 54th minute when Cornell's Jonathan Cullom was tripped up to the right of the goal, and with the foul came a chnce for Jack Ferguson to give his team a 1-0 lead.
That's where it stayed for 15 minutes until Thomas Sanner took a pass across the box and redirected it inside the right post to tie it at 1-1. Sanner's goal was his team-leading 11th of the season.
A foul led to a Cornell goal in the 84th minute, when Madison Heck to a free kick from 30 yards out that teammate Cullom received and Tommy Griffin bodied into the goal for the eventual game-winner.
Princeton will return to Roberts Stadium Tuesday for its final non-conference game of the season, hosting Drexel at 7 p.m. before resuming Ivy play at Penn next Saturday night.
