Susan Teeter Named 2015 Outstanding Women in Aquatic Sports Award Recipient
October 06, 2015 | Women's Swimming and Diving
Susan Teeter, who has led the Princeton women's swimming and diving program to 17 Ivy League championships, including 12 over the past 16 years, was honored recently at the Women in Sports Reception as the 2015 recipient of the Outstanding Women in Aquatic Sports Award.
The honor, which was established in 1979 and announced at the United States Aquatic Sports Convention in Kansas City, is presented to a woman who has contributed years of outstanding service to Aquatic Sports.
“I am humbled and honored to receive this award," Teeter said upon the announcement. "It has always been an important goal of mine to contribute at every level in Aquatic sports, as well as find ways to keep women in positions of leadership in our sports. It is deeply gratifying that you recognize my contributions in the same light as the impressive accomplishments of those who have accepted this award before me.
"I am and remain committed to mentoring and growing young women in our sports to be role models for our athletes.”
Teeter has led Princeton to 213 team victories throughout her career, and she has coached some of the top female student-athletes in University history, including Alicia Aemisegger '10, who was named the GoPrincetonTigers.com Female Athlete of the Decade.
The tradition of the program has only been enhanced in recent years, especially during a thrilling 2015 Ivy League championship weekend. The underdog Tigers traveled to the home of reigning champion Harvard, trailed after 19 of 21 events, and yet still took a celebratory dip in the pool after an incredible come-from-behind victory.
