PRINCETON, N.J. – Maddie Copeland of the 19th-ranked Princeton University field hockey team has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week after helping the Tigers to a pair of shutout wins over Yale and Penn State.
Picking up her second Ivy POTW honor of the season, Copeland collected three goals and an assist in a pair of Princeton victories over the weekend. Against Yale, Copeland put Princeton up 2-0 with a goal at 18:45. Extending the Tigers' lead in the second half, Copeland backhanded a shot from the middle of the circle into the Bulldogs' cage at 59:50. Copeland capped off her afternoon by assisting on Ryan McCarthy's goal in the final minute of regulation.
Continuing to shine against Penn State, Copeland broke a scoreless deadlock at 37:47, ripping a shot into the lower left corner of the Nittany Lions' net. Coming on of late, Copeland has recorded all nine of her goals this season in her last five appearances.
Already setting single-season career highs in goals (9) and points (20), Copeland is ranked sixth in the nation in goals per game (1.00) and 11th in points per outing (2.22). In four seasons in Orange and Black, Copeland has amassed 57 points on 27 goals and three assists.
