• Princeton will try to start 2-0 for the first time since the 2009-10 season when Saint Peter's comes to Dillon Gym Saturday night. The game, in addition to the special venue, will have a 9 p.m. start time.
• Saturday's game will bring Princeton back to Dillon Gym for a game for the first time since January 11, 1969. Jadwin Gym opened midseason during the 1968-69 campaign and hosted its first game on January 25, 1969 with a win over Penn.
• Saturday's game will serve as an American Cancer Society awareness game as both Princeton coach Mitch Henderson and Saint Peter's coach John Dunne have done work on behalf of the organization. Among Henderson's contributions have been visiting the organization's Lobby Day in Washington, visits to the NASDAQ exchange to ring the closing bell with other ACS members, and helping to promote ACS's CPS-3 study help advance cancer prevention.
• Princeton played its games in Dillon Gym from 1947-69. The Tigers played on the site in what was then University Gym beginning in 1903 until a fire on May 24, 1944 destroyed the building. Princeton played in Baker Rink for three seasons until Dillon Gym opened.
• The series with Saint Peter's consisted of just one game before the teams renewed it last season in Jersey City. Princeton won the first meeting on Dec. 30, 1978 in Jadwin, 57-36, but the Peacocks won 60-46 in last season's meeting on Dec. 10.
• Princeton returns just 26 of its 46 points from last season, with Hans Brase, now sidelined for the season with a knee injury, leading the Tigers with 17 points. Amir Bell chipped in 10. Cold shooting doomed the Tigers, with Princeton shooting 35.7 percent (10-28) in the first half and 25 percent (6-24) in the second. Saint Peter's shot 40.5 percent for the game, standing tied 25-25 at the half before the Peacocks outscored the Tigers 35-21 after the break.
• Saint Peter's returns just 15 of its 60 points from last year's meeting, with Desi Washington (18 points), Marvin Dominique (16) and Tyler Gaskins (10) all seniors last year.
• In the opener last Friday night at Rider, Princeton got contributions from players both familiar and new. Junior Spencer Weisz, the team's leading scorer last season (11.6 ppg) had 13 points and a career-high eight assists. Junior Pete Miller, who started 23 of the 30 games last season, had a career-high 12 rebounds. Freshman Devin Cannady had 17 points in 23 minutes off the bench in his debut. Princeton outshot the Broncs 40 percent to 36.8 percent on the night, adding to a rebound advantage of 38-36 and a turnover edge of 11-10.

• Saint Peter's graduated its top three scorers from last season in Marvin Dominique (13.9 ppg), Desi Washington (13.8 ppg) and Tyler Gaskins (9.2 ppg). The Peacocks were picked ninth in the 11-team MAAC in the league's preseason coaches poll.
• Saint Peter's opened its season with a 77-65 home win over Princeton's Ivy League foe Brown last Friday night before heading to Lafayette Sunday and coming away with an 87-86 defeat in overtime. The Peacocks fell behind at Lafayette by as many as 17 points in the first half before clawing back to tie and take a brief lead in the final two minutes of regulation. Thursday against Hartford, the Peacocks were up as many as 12 points in the first half before a 12-0 run gave Hartford a 56-52 lead with less than seven minutes to go, and the Hawks came out ahead at the end, 67-66.
• Saint Peter's head coach John Dunne has been at his post since 2006. He's the longest tenured of any of New Jersey's current Division I coaches in their current roles.
• The Peacocks have outrebounded their first three foes by an average of 10.3 rebounds a game. Quadir Welton has averaged 11.3 boards a game with Chazz Patterson at 7.0. Saint Peter's has shot 30.5 percent from 3-point range over the first three games while opponents have shot a 36.0 percent clip. While the Peacocks have struggled from 3 and the free-throw line (62.7 percent) early, they've shot 45.1 percent from 2-point range.

Mitch Henderson '98 is in his fifth season as Princeton's head coach. His overall record at Princeton is 75-46. Under Henderson, Princeton is 41-11 at home, 37-19 in the Ivy League, and 23-5 in the Ivy League at home. Princeton is 59-16 when leading at the half under Henderson. Henderson is the first Princeton coach since John Thompson III '88 (2000-04) to have winning seasons in each of his first four campaigns. He is the sixth Princeton coach to accomplish that, following Frederick Leuhring (1912-20), Butch van Breda Kolff '44 (1962-67), Pete Carril (1967-96), Bill Carmody (1996-2000) and Thompson III '88 (2000-04). Henderson is in seventh place on the Princeton all-time wins list. Bill Carmody, who was a Princeton assistant for Henderson's first two seasons and head coach for Henderson's last two, is in sixth place with 92 wins. Carmody hired Henderson as an assistant coach at Northwestern in 2000, where Henderson remained for 11 seasons until coming to Princeton. Henderson was a second-team All-Ivy Leaguer in 1998, an honorable mention All-Ivy Leaguer in 1997, and was a two-time Ivy Rookie of the Week in 1994-95. Henderson graduated as the fourth-leading assist man in program history (kept since 1974-75) and is now sixth, having been surpassed by two of his players, Ian Hummer '13 and T.J. Bray '14. Henderson graduated fifth in career steals (kept since 1974-75) and is now ninth, having been passed by former teammate Gabe Lewullis '99, Will Venable '05, Marcus Schroeder '10 and his former player T.J. Bray '14. Henderson is one of six Princeton alumni who are current Division I head coaches, including John Thompson III '88 (Georgetown), Joe Scott '87 (Denver), Mike Brennan '94 (American), Chris Mooney '94 (Richmond) and Sydney Johnson '97 (Fairfield). |
