• Princeton won't add a new state visited when it plays Saturday at Lipscomb, but visits to Tennessee have only happened three times in program history. Princeton made a two-game swing through Tennessee in 1959 to play Tennessee and Vanderbilt, another trip to play at Memphis in 1970, and then its most recent trip for a game at Vandy on Dec. 15, 1984. Alaska, Arkansas, Idaho, Montana, Mississippi, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont and Washington remain the only states in which Princeton has not played a game.
• As with games in Tennessee, games against Atlantic Sun teams have been rare for Princeton. The Tigers defeated UALR 59-56 in Michigan when it was a member of the conference in 1989, the only game other than last year's win over Lipscomb for Princeton against the A-Sun.
• Princeton and Lipscomb have no common opponents this season, but the Bisons have played another team coached by a Princeton alum. Denver, coached by Joe Scott '87, defeated Lipscomb 82-69 in California on the first weekend of the season at Santa Clara's Cable Car Classic.
• Lipscomb returns three of its five starters from last year's game as well as 27 of its 55 points, minus a game-high 20 from Malcolm Smith and eight from fellow starter Chad Lang. Princeton brings back 44 of its 77, minus a team-high 19 from Clay Wilson and 14 from Hans Brase.
• Princeton would also like to return the success on both offense and defense it had last year against the Bisons, shooting 51 percent to 36.2 percent for Lipscomb. The Tigers also made 14 3-pointers but lose nine of those in Clay Wilson (five) and Hans Brase (four). Lipscomb went 2 of 16 from three, with J.C. Hampton, a .367 shooter from distance this season, suffering through an 0-for-7 game againt Princeton.
• Princeton and opponents are both shooting 35.1 percent from distance, but the Tigers have made 26 more threes and taken 74 more tries.
• Entering Wednesday's games, Princeton was in the top 10 percent (top 34) in five statistical categories, including defensive rebounds per gmae (25th, 29.83), fewest fouls (13th, 110), fewest turnovers (fourth, 63), 3s per game (26th, 9.8), and turnovers per game (25th, 10.5). Amir Bell, Devin Cannady, Henry Caruso, Pete Miller and Spencer Weisz were all in teh top 250 in a statistical category, with Devin Cannady remaining No. 1 in the nation in free throw percentage at a perfect 17 for 17. Spencer Weisz is 25th with a 3.71 assist-to-turnover ratio.
• In order for Devin Cannady to remain eligible for the free throw ranking, he'll have to make at least one free throw at Lipscomb, if he plays. The minimum is 2.5 made per game played, with players needing to play in at least 75 percent of their team's games to be counted. Cannady, who has played in every game, has made 17 free throws over Princeton's first six games to put him at 2.83 FTs/game. He didn't go to the free throw line in a game for the first time this season Tuesday night at Saint Joseph's.
• Princeton's had been averaging 82.2 points per game heading to Saint Joseph's Tuesday night, but the team's 50-point output against the Hawks knocked nearly six points off that average, down to 76.8 ppg. The team record for a season-ending scoring average is 79.74, set in 1971-72.
• Under Mitch Henderson, Princeton has scored 90 points in a game five times. That's more than all other post-Pete Carril coaches combined and the fourth-most under a coach in program history. Princeton scored 90+ 21 times under Pete Carril, 18 times under Butch van Breda Kolff and 11 times under Cappy Cappon.
• Princeton has shot .329 (46-140) over the last two games after shooting .485 (116-239) over the first four games. Princeton shot below .400 just five times last season but has now done so in back-to-back games.
• Princeton's juniors (Caruso, Cook, Miller, Rayner, Weisz) have scored 265 of the team's 461 points, or 57.5 percent. Players who are able to return next year have scored 99.6 percent of the team's points (459 of 461).
• Among those juniors is Henry Caruso, who has matched or set his career high in scoring twice already this season, putting in a career-best 27 last week against FDU. He is averaging 15.8 points per game on the season and has scored a total of 95 points, more than half his total from all of last season (176). He scored three points as a rookie. Caruso has surged into the team lead in rebounding at 7.2 rpg and has two double-doubles this season, the first two of his career.
• Caruso's classmate, Pete Miller, has 35 rebounds through the first six games and is nearly halfway to his total from last season, 74. Miller averaged 2.3 boards a game as a rookie and 2.4 as a sophomore but is averaging 5.8 this year.
• Another junior, Steven Cook, has gotten untracked over the last few games. In the first two games, Cook was 6 of 20 from the field and 1 of 6 from distance, 2 of 6 from the line, averaging three rebounds a contest with five turnovers and no assists. He averaged 7.5 points per game over the first two. Over the last four games, Cook is 20 of 41 from the field, 10 of 21 from 3, 8 of 12 from the line, and averaging 6.5 rebounds a game with 10 assists and three turnovers. He's averaging 14.5 ppg over the last four.

• Lipscomb was picked fourth in the Atlantic Sun's preseason coaches poll and third in the media poll. Josh Williams was one of 10 players named to the preseason all-conference team.
• Lipscomb has three players averaging double-figure points, led by Josh Williams (13.5 ppg) and J.C. Hampton (13.5) along with Nathan Moran (11.3). Eli Pepper leads the team at 7.3 rebounds per game. The Bisons are shooting .434 from the field but allowing .433. Similarly, the team is shooting .383 from 3-point range while allowing .356.
• The Bisons are 2-8 against Division I opponents this season, getting wins over Santa Clara in the opener and Florida Atlantic on Nov. 22. The team's last four Division I opponents have all topped 80 points against Lipscomb, led by the 105 scored by the Bisons' Nashville rival Belmont, and Princeton averages 76.8 ppg.
• Lipscomb's coach is Casey Alexander, a Belmont alum who spent 16 years as an assistant at his alma mater before taking over as the head coach at Stetson in Florida in 2011. He was there for two years before returning to Nashville as Lipscomb's skipper in 2013. The Hatters' standing in the A-Sun improved from eighth in his first year to third in his second, and the Bisons moved up a spot from fifth in Alexander's first year to a tie for fourth last season.
• Through Wednesday's games, Lipscomb ranked second in the nation in 3s attempted, with 324, and fifth in 3s made per game at 11.0. The Bisons were also third in total threes made (131) and fourth in total assists (192). Lipscomb ranked 11th in total rebounds at 393.

Mitch Henderson '98 is in his fifth season as Princeton's head coach. His overall record at Princeton is 78-48. Under Henderson, Princeton is 44-11 at home, 37-19 in the Ivy League, and 23-5 in the Ivy League at home. Princeton is 62-16 when leading at the half under Henderson. Henderson is the first Princeton coach since John Thompson III '88 (2000-04) to have winning seasons in each of his first four campaigns. He is the sixth Princeton coach to accomplish that, following Frederick Leuhring (1912-20), Butch van Breda Kolff '44 (1962-67), Pete Carril (1967-96), Bill Carmody (1996-2000) and Thompson III '88 (2000-04). Henderson is in seventh place on the Princeton all-time wins list. Bill Carmody, who was a Princeton assistant for Henderson's first two seasons and head coach for Henderson's last two, is in sixth place with 92 wins. Carmody hired Henderson as an assistant coach at Northwestern in 2000, where Henderson remained for 11 seasons until coming to Princeton. Henderson was a second-team All-Ivy Leaguer in 1998, an honorable mention All-Ivy Leaguer in 1997, and was a two-time Ivy Rookie of the Week in 1994-95. Henderson graduated as the fourth-leading assist man in program history (kept since 1974-75) and is now sixth, having been surpassed by two of his players, Ian Hummer '13 and T.J. Bray '14. Henderson graduated fifth in career steals (kept since 1974-75) and is now ninth, having been passed by former teammate Gabe Lewullis '99, Will Venable '05, Marcus Schroeder '10 and his former player T.J. Bray '14. Henderson is one of six Princeton alumni who are current Division I head coaches, including John Thompson III '88 (Georgetown), Joe Scott '87 (Denver), Mike Brennan '94 (American), Chris Mooney '94 (Richmond) and Sydney Johnson '97 (Fairfield). |
