• Princeton and Bucknell have met off and on since their first meeting in 1902. The teams played just three times from the first game until a beginning a run of four games in five seasons in 1981. The teams met four years in a row from 1996-99 and again at Syracuse in 2004 but didn't renew the series until the current stretch, which began at an in-season tournament at James Madison in 2010. Princeton has won three of four since that resumption in 2010, though the teams did not play last season.
• Despite taking place just two seasons ago, Princeton's last meeting with Bucknell doesn't tell us much. The Tigers return just one of their 66 points (Weisz) and Bucknell returns just 24 of its 53 points, though the Bison were led that day (Nov. 30, 2013 at Bucknell) by 15 from Chris Hass.
• Princeton has quite a few top-three statistical rankings in the Ivy League heading into Tuesday's games. Princeton is ranked first in defensive rebounds and defensive rebounding percentage, second in scoring offense, scoring margin, rebounding offense, rebounding margin, turnover margin and 3s per game, and third in scoring defense, rebounding defense, steals and assist-to-turnover ratio. The only category in which Princeton ranks seventh or eighth in the league is 3-pt FG% defense (eighth, .366).
• Entering Sunday's games, Princeton was in the top 10 percent nationally (top 34) in three statistical categories, including fewest turnovers (20th, 100), fewest fouls (25th, 161) and 3s per game (34th, 9.3). Amir Bell, Henry Caruso, Devin Cannady, Pete Miller and Spencer Weisz combined for 15 top-250 individual rankings, led by Cannady's No. 9 ranking in field goal percentage at .926.
• Princeton's 75.22 ppg average isn't far from the team record for a season-ending scoring average of 79.74, set in 1971-72.
• Under Mitch Henderson, Princeton has scored 90 points in a game five times. That's more than all other post-Pete Carril coaches combined and the fourth-most under a coach in program history. Princeton scored 90+ 21 times under Pete Carril, 18 times under Butch van Breda Kolff and 11 times under Cappy Cappon.
• Henry Caruso is on pace to score 513 points this season (28 games), which would be the most at Princeton since Ian Hummer scored 515 points in 32 games in 2011-12. His 165 points this season are just shy of twice as many as any other Tiger (Steven Cook, 83), and he's perhaps a game away from surpassing his total from all of last season, 176. He scored three points as a rookie. Caruso has also surged into the team lead in rebounding at 7.6 rpg and has three double-doubles this season, the first three of his career.
• Princeton's top six scorers - Henry Caruso, Steven Cook, Devin Cannady, Spencer Weisz, Amir Bell and Pete Miller - have scored 550 of the team's 677 points this season, or 81.2 percent.
• Princeton has shot .400 or better from the field seven times in the nine games this season and is 6-1 in those games (loss vs. Maryland). Princeton is 0-2 when not shooting at least .400.
• The number of 3-pointers Princeton makes hasn't been a predictor of wins so far this season. The Tigers are 2-2 when they make at least 10 3s and 4-1 when they make fewer than 10.
• Princeton's juniors (Caruso, Cook, Miller, Rayner, Weisz) have scored 411 of the team's 677 points, or 60.7 percent. Players who are able to return next year have scored 99.7 percent of the team's points (675 of 677).
• No Tiger has ended the season averaging as many as 18.3 points per game, which Caruso is averaging now, since Brian Taylor averaged 25.0 ppg in 1971-72. T.J. Bray averaged 18.0 ppg two seasons ago.
• Princeton has had six double-doubles this season, including three in one game at Lipscomb, the first time that has happened in program history. Princeton's six double-doubles this season, by four players (Caruso 3, Cook, Miller, Weisz) have already surpassed last year's five, which were all by Hans Brase. Princeton had seven double-doubles by four players in 2013-14.
• Caruso's classmate, Pete Miller, has 55 rebounds through the first nine games and is closing in on his total from last season, 74. Miller averaged 2.3 boards a game as a rookie and 2.4 as a sophomore but is averaging 6.5 this year.
• Princeton and Bucknell have two common opponents this season, but both the Tigers and the Bison have not yet faced either one of those foes. Princeton beat Lafayette 104-52 on Nov. 25, and the Bison will face Lafayette on Jan. 25 and Feb. 24. Bucknell lost to Columbia 72-61 on Dec. 2, and the Tigers will face the Lions on Feb. 13 and 26.
• Princeton will try to go 2-0 against Bison teams and will have faced half the "herd" once Bucknell comes to town. The Tigers beat Lipscomb 78-64 on Dec. 12, but aren't scheduled to face the other two Bison(s)-nicknamed teams this year, Howard and North Dakota State.
• This will be the last Patriot-Ivy matchup of the regular season. The Ivy has a decisive lead in head-to-head meetings this year at 8-3.
![]() |
• Bucknell brings a five-game skid to Princeton after opening with a 3-1 start and wins over Division III Shenandoah, Robert Morris and Manhattan as well as an eight-point loss in a visit from Wake Forest. The Manhattan game on Nov. 21 was the Bison's last win.
• Nathan Davis is in his first season as Bucknell's head coach, but he's not new to Lewisburg. Davis was an assistant coach at Bucknell from 2003-08 before serving as head coach at his alma mater, Randolph-Macon, for six seasons.
• The Bison are shooting a strong .462 from the field on the way to averaging 78.8 points per game, but Bucknell's opponents are shooting .428 and averaging 76.8 points per game.
• Bucknell was the preseason No. 2 pick in the Patriot League's official preseason poll this season, getting eight of the 20 first-place votes while Lehigh got the other 12. Chris Hass, who is leading Bucknell at 17.7 points per game, was one of five players named preseason all-league.
• Bucknell's top national statistical ranking through Saturday's games was in assists per game, 45th with 16.7. Chris Hass, Stephen Brown, Nana Foulland and Zach Thomas combined for 15 top-250 statistical rankings individually, led by Hass's 88th-ranked 17.7 points per game.

Mitch Henderson '98 is in his fifth season as Princeton's head coach. His overall record at Princeton is 80-49. Under Henderson, Princeton is 45-11 at home, 37-19 in the Ivy League, and 23-5 in the Ivy League at home. Princeton is 64-16 when leading at the half under Henderson. Henderson is the first Princeton coach since John Thompson III '88 (2000-04) to have winning seasons in each of his first four campaigns. He is the sixth Princeton coach to accomplish that, following Frederick Leuhring (1912-20), Butch van Breda Kolff '44 (1962-67), Pete Carril (1967-96), Bill Carmody (1996-2000) and Thompson III '88 (2000-04). Henderson is in seventh place on the Princeton all-time wins list. Bill Carmody, who was a Princeton assistant for Henderson's first two seasons and head coach for Henderson's last two, is in sixth place with 92 wins. Carmody hired Henderson as an assistant coach at Northwestern in 2000, where Henderson remained for 11 seasons until coming to Princeton. Henderson was a second-team All-Ivy Leaguer in 1998, an honorable mention All-Ivy Leaguer in 1997, and was a two-time Ivy Rookie of the Week in 1994-95. Henderson graduated as the fourth-leading assist man in program history (kept since 1974-75) and is now sixth, having been surpassed by two of his players, Ian Hummer '13 and T.J. Bray '14. Henderson graduated fifth in career steals (kept since 1974-75) and is now ninth, having been passed by former teammate Gabe Lewullis '99, Will Venable '05, Marcus Schroeder '10 and his former player T.J. Bray '14. Henderson is one of six Princeton alumni who are current Division I head coaches, including John Thompson III '88 (Georgetown), Joe Scott '87 (Denver), Mike Brennan '94 (American), Chris Mooney '94 (Richmond) and Sydney Johnson '97 (Fairfield). |
