• The Tigers are 4-1 for the second time in three years and will look to be 5-1 for the second time in three years when they head to Saint Joseph's Tuesday night.
• Princeton will head to Saint Joseph's for the second time since the renovated Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse re-opened as the renovated Hagan Arena in 2009. Princeton played there on Jan. 2, 2010, getting a 70-62 win. SJU came to Jadwin the next year and Princeton won 74-65, and the teams haven't met since.
• Both Princeton and Saint Joseph's played their most recent games in New York, Saint Joseph's winning 80-78 at Princeton's Ivy League rival Columbia Friday night at the Tigers falling 91-77 at Stony Brook on Long Island. The box score reflected the final score in the Hawks' game in Manhattan, with Saint Joseph's making two more free throws, grabbing two more rebounds and making two fewer turnovers in a two-point game that was never more than eight points apart. Princeton struggled with two-time America East Player of the Year Jameel Warney, who had 26 points, 15 rebounds, nine blocks and five assists as the Seawolves shot .635 from the field, the highest Princeton has allowed in Mitch Henderson's four-plus seasons as head coach. Princeton couldn't keep up with that, shooting .365 from the field, and the Seawolves led from first bucket to final whistle.
• Princeton faces a Philadelphia Big 5 member every year in Penn, of course, but this will be Princeton's first game against one of the other Big 5 schools (La Salle, Saint Joseph's, Temple, Villanova) since the last Princeton-Saint Joseph's game in 2010.
• The Tigers are shooting 45.7 percent from the field this season, near its .463 clip at the end of last season. Even with Stony Brook's hot shooting (.635) Saturday, the Tigers are allowing opponents a .416 clip this season, down from .437 at the end of last season.
• Also despite a number to the contrary Saturday, when Stony Brook outrebounded the Tigers by 13, Princeton is outrebounding opponents by an average of seven boards a game.
• Entering Sunday's games, Princeton was ranked second in the nation in fewest turnovers (51) and eighth in the nation in fewest fouls (92). The Tigers were also 18th in turnovers per game (10.2), while fouls per game (18.4) was 85th. Other top-10-percent rankings were in defensive rebounds per game (25th, 30), assist-to-turnover ratio (29th, 1.53), 3s per game (22nd, 10) and scoring margin (31st, 15.8 ppg).
• Princeton boasts a player ranked first in a statistical category, with Devin Cannady entering Sunday's games as the only player in Division I who has made at least 2.5 free throws per team game and has made all of those free throws, going 17 for 17. Spencer Weisz was fourth in the nation with a 7.33 assist-to-turnover ratio.
• Princeton's is averaging 82.2 points per game over the first five contests and has scored at least 75 in each of its last four games. The team record for a season-ending scoring average is 79.74, set in 1971-72.
• Under Mitch Henderson, Princeton has scored 90 points in a game five times. That's more than all other post-Pete Carril coaches combined and the fourth-most under a coach in program history. Princeton scored 90+ 21 times under Pete Carril, 18 times under Butch van Breda Kolff and 11 times under Cappy Cappon.
• Princeton's .365 shooting clip at Sacred Heart was the first time this season Princeton didn't make at least 40 percent of its field goal tries. Princeton shot below .400 just five times last season, but the Tigers took some time to warm up last season as three of those five occasions were in the first five games of the 2014-15 campaign.
• Princeton's juniors (Caruso, Cook, Miller, Rayner, Weisz) have scored 234 of the team's 411 points, or 56.9 percent. Players who are able to return next year have scored 99.5 percent of the team's points (409 of 411).
• Among those juniors is Henry Caruso, who has matched or set his career high in scoring twice already this season, putting in a career-best 27 last week against FDU. He is averaging 17.6 points per game on the season and has scored a total of 88 points, exactly half his total from all of last season (176). He scored three points as a rookie. Caruso has surged into the team lead in rebounding at 7.0 rpg and has two double-doubles this season, the first two of his career.
• Caruso's classmate, Pete Miller, has 35 rebounds through the first five games and is nearly halfway to his total from last season, 74. Miller averaged 2.3 boards a game as a rookie and 2.4 as a sophomore but is averaging 6.8 this year.
• Another junior, Steven Cook, has gotten untracked over the last few games. In the first two games, Cook was 6 of 20 from the field and 1 of 6 from distance, 2 of 6 from the line, averaging three rebounds a contest with five turnovers and no assists. He averaged 7.5 points per game over the first two. Over the last three games, Cook is 14 of 28 from the field, 8 of 14 from 3, 7 of 10 from the line, and averaging 6.3 rebounds a game with nine assists and two turnovers. He's averaging 14.3 ppg over the last three.

• Saint Joseph's was picked seventh in the 14-team Atlantic 10's preseason poll, which surveys both the league's coaches and members of the media. DeAndre Bembry was a first-team All-A-10 preseason pick as well as a preseason all-defensive team selection.
• Saint Joseph's has four players averaging double-figure points, led by Isaiah Miles at 16.3 ppg with a team-best 7.0 rebounds a game as well. DeAndre Bembry is second in both scoring (14.1 ppg) and rebounding (6.7 rpg) with a team-best 4.6 assists per game.
• Bembry, Miles and Aaron Brown were the team's top three scorers last season and all return this season. Like Princeton, the Hawks have picked up their scoring average from last season so far in this campaign, averaging 75.0 points per game in the early going this year after averaging 61.7 at the close of last season. The Tigers are up to 82.2 ppg so far from 68.9.
• Threes have been falling at a relatively scarce pace for both the Hawks and their opponents this season. Saint Joseph's is averaging a .268 clip from distance this year with opponents hitting at a .308 rate. Compare that with Princeton, which is hitting at a .370 clip and allowing .385.
• The Hawks are out-blocking their opponents 39-17 so far this season and three players have double-figure block totals to make up 36 of the team's 39 rejections. Isaiah Miles leads the team with 14 while DeAndre Bembry and Pierfrancesco Oliva have 11 apiece.
• Princeton will face its second coach of the season who reached his current post for the 1995-96 season. The Tigers met Fran O'Hanlon and Lafayette on Nov. 25, and now they'll play against another of the four coaches tied for the sixth in active longevity at his position in Phil Martelli. Saint Joseph's, where Martelli spent 10 years as an assistant just prior to becoming the head coach, has been Martelli's only NCAA Division I stop.
• Through Saturday's games, Saint Joseph's top NCAA statistical ranking was in turnovers per game, where the Hawks averaged a 21st-best 10.3. DeAndre Bembry's 36-plus minutes per game were the 22nd-most in the nation, leading the Hawks in individual statistical rankings.

Mitch Henderson '98 is in his fifth season as Princeton's head coach. His overall record at Princeton is 78-47. Under Henderson, Princeton is 44-11 at home, 37-19 in the Ivy League, and 23-5 in the Ivy League at home. Princeton is 62-16 when leading at the half under Henderson. Henderson is the first Princeton coach since John Thompson III '88 (2000-04) to have winning seasons in each of his first four campaigns. He is the sixth Princeton coach to accomplish that, following Frederick Leuhring (1912-20), Butch van Breda Kolff '44 (1962-67), Pete Carril (1967-96), Bill Carmody (1996-2000) and Thompson III '88 (2000-04). Henderson is in seventh place on the Princeton all-time wins list. Bill Carmody, who was a Princeton assistant for Henderson's first two seasons and head coach for Henderson's last two, is in sixth place with 92 wins. Carmody hired Henderson as an assistant coach at Northwestern in 2000, where Henderson remained for 11 seasons until coming to Princeton. Henderson was a second-team All-Ivy Leaguer in 1998, an honorable mention All-Ivy Leaguer in 1997, and was a two-time Ivy Rookie of the Week in 1994-95. Henderson graduated as the fourth-leading assist man in program history (kept since 1974-75) and is now sixth, having been surpassed by two of his players, Ian Hummer '13 and T.J. Bray '14. Henderson graduated fifth in career steals (kept since 1974-75) and is now ninth, having been passed by former teammate Gabe Lewullis '99, Will Venable '05, Marcus Schroeder '10 and his former player T.J. Bray '14. Henderson is one of six Princeton alumni who are current Division I head coaches, including John Thompson III '88 (Georgetown), Joe Scott '87 (Denver), Mike Brennan '94 (American), Chris Mooney '94 (Richmond) and Sydney Johnson '97 (Fairfield). |
