Princeton is coming off a mixed weekend; it earned its first win over a Big 10 team since the 1976-77 season when it rallied past Northwestern 24-18, but it followed with a 33-3 loss to 12th-ranked Lehigh to close out its home opener.
The Tigers will look to close out the first half of the season with a .500 mark — with all three losses coming to Top 15 teams — with a victory over the Navy Midshipmen this weekend. Princeton hasn't won a dual match over Navy since Jan. 7, 1978 — the Tigers were undefeated and Ivy League champions that season — and they have lost 24 of their last 25 matches to the Midshipmen.
However, the two teams did compete in the Navy Classic earlier this season, and the Tigers won the tournament after four different wrestlers won their weight classes. Two of those wrestlers could face Top-20 opponents Friday night, a good final tune-up before the Midlands Championships Dec. 29-30.
At 174 pounds, Princeton's 14th-ranked Jonathan Schleifer is expected to be back in the lineup and could face 15th-ranked Jadaen Bernstein. Schleifer topped Bernstein 14-8 at the Navy Classic last month, though Bernstein is the reigning EIWA champion at 174 pounds.
At 184, Princeton's 16th-ranked Abram Ayala could face 15th-ranked Mathew Miller. Ayala won the Navy Classic, though Miller was out that weekend.
