PRINCETON, N.J. (2/12/15) - Just three weekends remain in in the regular season for the Princeton men's hockey team and the Tigers will play the next two at home at Hobey Baker Rink. First up, Princeton takes on Clarkson and a hot No. 20 St. Lawrence this Friday & Saturday.
EYE ON THE TIGERS
The Tigers return home after posting a 0-3-1 record on the road the last two weekends. Most recently Princeton lost a 2-0 game at No. 20 Colgate and a 4-2 game at Cornell. Princeton is 3-17-2 overall and 1-14-1 in the ECAC with three regular-season weekends remaining. Junior Jonathan Liau leads the team with 11 points on four goals and seven assists. Junior Kyle Rankin and sophomore Ben Foster have nine points apiece with each scoring three goals and six helpers. Senior defender Aaron Ave chips in seven points, while junior Mike Ambrosia has six. Sophomore Colton Phinney has played in all but one game this season and has a .913 save percentage and a 3.13 goals against average.
THE PRINCETON/CLARKSON SERIES
Clarkson leads the all-time series 79-29-5 since it began in 1928. The Golden Knights have won the last three meetings including a 4-0 win in Potsdam in November. These teams met last year in the first round of the ECAC playoffs with Clarkson winning the series in three games. Kyle Rankin has four points in the series, while Jonathan Liau has three. Colton Phinney is 1-3 with a .914 save percentage and a 2.89 GAA.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS
Clarkson is 11-13-4 on the season and with an 8-6-2 ECAC record the Golden Knights are in a three-way tie for third place in the standings, along with Dartmouth and Harvard. The team most recently completed a five-game homestand, going 3-2, with shutouts of Brown and Yale and a 5-2 win over Rensselaer. The squad posted a 2-1 loss to St. Lawrence and a 4-1 loss to Union. Junior Jeff Di Nallo has five goals and 13 assists for 18 points, while sophomore defender James de Haas (DET) has six goals and eight assists for 14 points. Senior Joe Zarbo has scored a team-high eight goals and adds four assists for 12 points. Sophomores Jordan Boucher and Troy Josephs (PIT) chip in 11 points each. Sophomore Steve Perry has played in 16 of 28 games and sports a .916 save percentage and a 1.85 GAA. Sophomore Ville Runola and junior Greg Lewis have played eight games apiece in net. It's expected that Lewis will starts, as he has the last six games. Lewis has a .927 save percentage and a 2.01 GAA.
THE PRINCETON/ST. LAWRENCE SERIES
Princeton looks to halt a nine-game winless skid in the series with St. Lawrence. The Saints are 67-21-10 since the series began in 1947-48 and won a 3-0 game in Canton in November. Princeton's last win came during the 2010-11 ECAC first round series, the final year of Guy Gadowsky era. Only four current players have been able to enter the scoresheet against the Saints - Tyler Maugeri (3) Jonathan Liau (2), Aaron Kesselman (1) and Ryan Siiro (1).
