Men's Tennis Wraps ECAC Play With Win in Third-Place Match
February 16, 2015 | Men's Tennis
Monday morning's third-place match at the ECAC Championship went to Princeton in a 4-2 decision over Brown.
The Tigers wrap the weekend with a 7-1 overall record, still its best mark through eight matches since 1979 when Princeton started 14-0.
Princeton began the afternoon with a loss in the doubles point and trailed 2-1 after the teams split the first two singles matches off the court. After that, it was all Princeton, with Josh Yablon, Zack McCourt and Alex Day stringing together wins to combine with Tom Colautti's win at second singles to clinch the match.
Princeton will head for the second straight year to the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Alabama next weekend. The draw will be announced early this week, and Alabama, Auburn, Boise State, Clemson, Mississippi State, South Florida and Texas Tech will join Princeton at the event.

Coach Billy Pate on the match: "It's nice to finish the event with another quality win. Brown pushed us hard and forced us to respond. We clearly need to work on our doubles and do a better job of putting ourselves in a position to win the doubles point. Though we're doing a good job in these matches, battling back to win four singles, it's not the ideal formula. We'll make some adjustments and be ready to get back at it this weekend outdoors in Alabama." |
