BOX SCORE
PRINCETON, N.J. (2/20/15) - A three-goal second period for Brown put the game out of reach for Princeton, as the Bears won a 4-1 game on Friday night at Hobey Baker Rink. The Tigers gave it everything they had in the third, outshooting Brown, 20-6 but could get just one goal.
Sophomore Kevin Liss intercepted a power-play pass along the blue line and skated in for the breakaway, shorthanded goal at 11:48. Typically a defender, Liss played on the Tigers' fourth line tonight, while scoring his first career goal.
Nick Lappin had a three-point game for Brown, scoring once and added two assists, while Sam Lafferty had a goal and an assist.
Tyler Bird gave Brown the 1-0 lead in the first period. Lappin dumped the puck in on a line change and there was a battle for it along the boards. Lafferty collected it and bumped it out to the blue line to Bird who dodged a defender as he crossed to the right side and shot through traffic to light the lamp.
In the second frame, Marc Neclerio and Lafferty added goals within 1:42 to expand Brown's lead to 3-0. Lappin figured into the goal as he skated into the zone but was being kept to the outside by the nice work from his defender. Lappin found Joey de Concilys open at the blue line and de Concilys fired a shot on Phinney that bounced off his pad and rebounded to Naclerio on the right side. Before Phinney could make the post-to-post save, Naclerio had flipped the puck into the goal at 12:49.
An unfortunate bounce left the Tigers in a three-goal hole at 14:31. Lafferty was tied up by his defender, but as they reached the end boards Lafferty managed to throw the puck towards the front of the goal and it bounced in.
Brown tacked another goal on at 19:53 of the second when Lappin's original shot by Phinney was deflected out to the left boards. Josh McArdle dumped it back in where it was collected by Matt Lorito. Lortio circled behind the cage and found Lappin on the doorstep and for the top shelf goal.
Princeton pulled Colton Phinney for the final 4:54 of the game but couldn't find an answer to Tim Ernst, who finished with 31 saves, and the Brown defense.
Phinney posted a 23-save performance as the Tigers drop to 4-18-3 and 2-15-2 in the ECAC.
Both teams were 0 for 3 on the power play.
