PRINCETON, N.J. (2/25/15) - Coming off of a big win over No. 9 Loyola in the season opener, the Princeton women's lacrosse team jumped to No. 11 in the poll and looks to keep things rolling as it hosts Drexel on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
Eye on the Tigers
Princeton started the 2015 season with a bang defeating No. 9 Loyola 10-8 here on Sherrerd Field on Saturday. It was redemption for the Tigers who lost to the Greyhounds in last year's season opener in Baltimore, 15-10. The Tigers moved up four places in the national poll and are now No. 11.
Senior Erin Slifer had a six-point game with a career-high five goals and one assist. Senior Erin McMunn and junior Stephanie Paloscio both scored twice, well sophomore Olivia Hompe tallied two assists. Four others made their way into the scoresheet. McMunn had a team-best five draw controls while freshman Hayley Giraldi had four. Both senior Annie Woehling and sophomore Ellie DeGarmo saw action in goal. Woehling got the start and made three saves on 10 shots in 42 minutes before DeGarmo took over to make three saves on four shots to earn the win.
The Series
This is the first meeting between Princeton and Drexel.
Scouting the Dragons
Drexel is coming off of a 6-10 season and its strength is its defense, as it returns its entire defensive corps, led by four-year starter Jocelyn Quaile. Offensively the team lost its leading scorer from a year ago but retain Joelle Hartke who put up 29 points in 2014 and Emily Duffey who had 23 points.
After opening with a 5-2 loss at Monmouth a week ago, the Dragons rebounded with an 11-9 win over Columbia at home on Sunday. Sophomore Devin Nihill has four goals and an assist to lead the team in scoring. Junior Emily Duffey has two goals and two assists for four points, while junior Milan White has scored three times. Redshirt freshman Nadia Pelham-Lacey adds two goals. Alissa Watts and White are the team leaders in draws with three apiece. Seniors Kelly McDevitt and Jocelyn Quaile have three caused turnovers each and junior Madeline DiBrino has a team-best six ground balls. Senior Teresha Bradley has played every minute in goal and has a 7.00 GAA and a .391 save percentage.
