Caitlin Chambers Qualifies In All Diving Events For NCAA Championships
March 10, 2015 | Women's Swimming and Diving
Sophomore Caitlin Chambers swept both boards at the Ivy League Championships to both help Princeton reclaim the league title and complete a perfect season against Ivy competition. Now Chambers will face the best divers in the nation, as she earned a qualifying spot for the 2015 NCAA Championships in every possible event.
Competing at the Zone A Championships in Buffalo, Chambers took fourth place in the 3-meter final with 621.75 to earn her first automatic bid to the NCAAs, which will be held March 19-21 in Greensboro, N.C. Chambers was one of 56 entries in the preliminaries, and she finished second at that point to become one of 18 finalists.
From there, Chambers did enough to assure herself a spot at the national championships, though it was a bit more exciting that she likely hoped. She was in second place after one round, but a 42.00 on her second dive made things significantly closer with four rounds to go. She was on point from there, scoring at least a 52 on her final four dives to finish fourth overall.
Chambers was just as impressive during the second day of the Zone A Championships, when she scored 570.55 points to finish second overall in the 1-meter event. Two of her six dives were the highest-scoring dives of the round, and she finished with a 49.40 to clinch the qualification on the board.
She capped her week with a qualification on the platform. Despite not competing in the platform at any point during the Ivy League season, Chambers scored 505.20 points to finish fifth in the event and assure herself a competition during all three days at the NCAA Championships.
