PRINCETON, N.J. (3/5/15) - The Ivy League season begins on Saturday for women's lacrosse as Princeton heads to Dartmouth. The 3-0 Tigers will face the 0-3 Big Green at 1 p.m., at Scully-Fahey Field.
EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton heads into the Ivy League play with a 3-0 record and ranked No. 10/9 in the national polls. The Tigers defeated No. 9 Loyola in the home opener and followed up with wins over Drexel and Georgetown. Three players are already in double digits in scoring led by sophomore Olivia Hompe. She has 12 points on nine goals and three assists. Senior Erin Slifer has 11 points on seven goals and four helpers, followed by senior Erin McMunn with 10 points on five goals and five assists. Junior Anya Gersoff has four points, while junior Stephanie Paloscio and freshman Hayley Giraldi have three apiece. McMunn has a team-high 13 draws with Gersoff following with seven. Slifer leads the team in ground balls with six and caused turnovers with three. Sophomore Ellie DeGarmo is 3-0 in goal and has a 5.23 goals against average and a .667 save percentage. DeGarmo has made 24 saves and allowed 12 in less than 138 minutes of action.
THE SERIES
Princeton leads the series with Dartmouth 24-18 and won last year's meeting 12-10 in Princeton - that gave the Tigers the Ivy League title. Princeton is 10-8 when playing in Hanover and won the last game at Scully-Fahey Field 15-13 in April 2013. Erin Slifer has 14 points in four games and Erin McMunn has 11 in four games. McMunn adds 11 draws.
SCOUTING THE BIG GREEN
Dartmouth is 0-3 on the season and most recently dropped a 13-7 game at Boston University on Wednesday night. The team also has an 18-10 loss at Florida and a 16-10 loss to Connecticut. After the postponement of the UNH game on Feb. 25 - today's game marks the home opener for the Big Green. Jaclyn Leto has dominated the team's offense. She has scored 14 of her team's 27 goals and is 8 of 12 on free position shots. The next two closest players in the points column are Sarah Byrne and Frances Bird, who each have three on three goals. Leto leads the team in draw controls with 13 and is second on the team in ground balls with five. Bird has a team-best six ground balls and is second in draws with seven and is one of three players that has a team-high three caused turnovers. Jessica Frieder has started in goal for all three games and has a 15.09 GAA and a .250 save percentage. She has made 14 saves and allowed 42 goals.
