Men's Hockey Honors Seniors, Announces Award Winners at Team Banquet

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/22/15) - The Princeton men's hockey team held its annual team banquet on Saturday at the Nassau Inn in Princeton. In addition to honoring the Class of 2015, annual awards were presented and captains were announced for the 2015-16 season.
Aaron Ave, Ryan Benitez, Tucker Brockett, Aaron Kesselman, Tom Kroshus, Tyler Maugeri were joined by former teammate Kevin Mills as the seniors were honored.

Ryan Benitez was presented with the Vaughan Cup. The Vaughan Cup is awarded to the varsity player who best exemplifies perseverance and dedication to Princeton Hockey. The Tigers back-up goaltender, Benitez started against Yale this season and stopped all six shots he faced.
The Tucker Ironman Award was given to Tom Kroshus. Presented to the member of the team who best exemplifies the Ironman spirit through his off-season preparation, commitment to conditioning and overall physical endurance. Kroshus played in 25 games on defense and finished the season with four points, including a two-goal game against Rensselaer.
Sophomore Colton Phinney was awarded the Blackwell Trophy. Awarded to the member of the team who in play, sportsmanship and influence has contributed most to the sport. Phinney played in 29 games and posted a .910 save percentage and a 3.08 goals against average. He stopped a season-high 51 saves against Harvard and had three 40+ save performances. Phinney was named the ECAC Goalie of the Week on Feb. 15 after leading the league with 62 saves as the Tigers went 1-0-1.
Aaron Ave was the recipient of the 1941 Championship Trophy It is presented annually to that varsity player who best reflected the winning spirit of the 1941 championship team and in so doing was an inspiration to his teammates. An assistant captain this year, Ave led the defenders in scoring with eight points on three goals and five assists.
In what will be a new tradition, last year's Hobey Baker Trophy recipients Phinney and Ryan Siiro presented the award to this year's winner - Joe Grabowski. The trophy is awarded annually to the team's freshman hockey player who, among his classmates, in play, sportsmanship and influence has contributed most to the sport, and has been handed out in each since 1950. Grabowski appeared in 29 games and finished with one goal, three assists and 31 PIMs. He collected his first point in his first game, a 2-2 tie with Yale.
Guiding the team on the ice next season will be captains Mike. Ambrosia and Kyle Rankin.
