PRINCETON, N.J. (4/23/15) - Princeton hosts the Ivy League Women's Lacrosse Tournament for the second consecutive year this weekend on Sherred Field at Class of 1952 Stadium. On Friday, No. 1 seed Princeton will face No. 4 seed Harvard at 7 p.m., after No. 2 Penn and No. 3 Cornell square off at 4 p.m. The winners will meet on Sunday, May 3 to decide who receives the Ivy League's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and the title of Ivy League tournament champion.
EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton won the Ivy League title outright on Saturday with a 14-8 victory over Brown, to finished with a perfect 7-0 conference record. At 12-3 overall, the Tigers are ranked No. 11 in both national polls this week.
The team is lead offensively by senior Erin Slifer and sophomore Olivia Hompe's 50+ point totals. Slifer has 36 goals and a team-high 19 assists for 55 points, while Hompe is the goal leader with 39 tallies and 15 assists for 54 points. Senior Erin McMunn and junior Stephanie Paloscio chip in 35 points apiece, with McMunn scoring 22 goals and 13 assists, while Paloscio has 19 goals and 16 helpers. Starters Anna Doherty and Anya Gersoff add 21 and 17 points, respectively. The pair have pulled down the most draw controls on the team with Gersoff winning 29 and Doherty 25. Doherty is also the team leader in caused turnovers with 15, while Slifer has 12 and a team-high 22 ground balls. Sophomore Ellie DeGarmo is 10-3 in goal with a .450 save percentage and a 9.10 goals against average.
THE SERIES
Princeton leads the all-time series with Chris Sailer's alma mater 28-18 and are 17-6 when hosting Harvard in Princeton. The Tigers have won the last three meetings, including a 17-12 affair in mid-March.
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON
Harvard clinched a spot in the Ivy League Tournament after a 15-4 win over Yale last Saturday. The Crimson are 8-7 overall and 4-3 in the league. They are 0-3 against the participants in the league, with a 17-12 loss to Princeton, an 8-6 loss to Penn and a 10-9 loss to Cornell.
Harvard has two players with 40+ points and two more with 30+. Sophomore Marisa Romeo leads with 48 points on 37 goals and 11 assists, followed by freshman Julia Glynn with 41 point son 24 goals and a team-high 17 assist. Junior Audrey Todd adds 28 goals and eight assists, while sophomore Megan Hennessey adds 18 goals and 16 helpers. Hennessey is the team leader in draws with 32, with Todd second with 23. Sophomore defender Emma Ford has a team-high 33 ground balls and is second on the team in caused turnovers with 13, five back from Glynn's 18. Junior Kelly Weis has played in goal in every game and has a 9.23 GAA and a .422 save percentage.
