Updated: Fencer Alex House to Represent U.S. at World University Games
June 04, 2015 | Men's Fencing
Princeton rising junior Alex House will be one of 24 fencers to represent the United States at the World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea in July.
House, an épée fencer, earned All-America, first-team All-Ivy League and Academic All-Ivy League honors this past season, placing 11th at the NCAA Championships after going 11-4 at the Ivy League Round Robins to earn the all-league honor. A year ago, House was the Ivy League Most Outstanding Rookie and just missed out on All-America honors, finishing 13th in 2014.
House is sure to see some familiar faces on the U.S. contingent, with 11 of the 24 fencers across the six weapons as fellow Ivy Leaguers. He'll also have at least one Princeton classmate there, as tennis player Alex Day will also be making the trip, representing Canada.
The games will run from July 3-14.
Update: House won two of his five pool bouts and his Round of 64 match 15-10 against Italian Andrea Baroglio, but Hungarian Matyas File got past House 15-13 in the Round of 32 to end House's individual competition. With the U.S., House and his American teammates finished 11th in the team competition.
