• Each of the next six Fridays and Saturdays will have Ivy League games, and the first of those is this weekend when Princeton heads to Brown Friday and Yale Saturday to resume the league slate.
• Princeton is one of three Ivy-unbeaten teams, along with Yale and Columbia, each of which swept their travel partners during Princeton's finals break. The Tigers beat Penn 73-71 in OT just before the finals break began and beat Division III Bryn Athyn 100-44 in the annual post-finals non-Division I rust-buster this past Sunday.
• With the 100 points scored against Bryn Athyn, Princeton posted the fifth 100-point game for any Ivy League team this season, and the Tigers are the only team with two, having scored 104 against Lafayette on Nov. 25. Dartmouth put up 121 on Division III Pine Manor, Columbia scored 107 on Division III Kean, and Cornell scored 101 against Colgate in double overtime, meaning Princeton is the only team in the Ivy this year to score 100 against a Division I team in regulation.
• Princeton's 56-point margin of victory Sunday against Bryn Athyn was the second-largest margin of victory in the Ivy this season. Dartmouth beat another Division III program, Pine Manor, by 65, 121-56, a week before Princeton's game against Bryn Athyn. The 100 points and the 56-point margin of victory were the most points and the largest margin for the Tigers in the post-finals non-Division I game, which dates back to 1986.
• Princeton's fortunes have gone in opposite directions at Brown's Pizzitola Center and Yale's Lee Amphitheater. At Brown, Princeton lost its 2013 visit 80-67, a defeat that knocked the Tigers out of the running for the Ivy title on the last league weekend. Since then, Princeton has won both games at Brown, by four points in 2014 and by 18 points a year ago. At Yale, Princeton won the 2011 Ivy League playoff over Harvard on a buzzer beater by Douglas Davis '12, but the building has been inhospitable to the Tigers since, as Yale has won the last four times Princeton has visited. The first three losses were by five or fewer points before the Bulldogs won by 21 last year.
• Friday's meeting will match the only two of the current eight Ivy coaches who played for the program they're coaching. Mitch Henderson is a 1998 Princeton grad, and Mike Martin is a 2004 Brown alum. Saturday's game will put Princeton against the dean of the current Ivy League coaches, with Yale's James Jones having been at his spot since 1999 and as one of only two league coaches to have been at his post since before 2010 (Tommy Amaker, Harvard, 2007).
• Saturday's game will match the teams that enter the weekend as the Ivy's top scoring offense (Princeton, 78.3 ppg) and scoring defense (Yale, 63.6 ppg allowed). Both teams are also third in the Ivy in the opposite category, with Yale scoring 74.9 ppg and Princeton allowing 67.5.
• The first Ivy League weekend may be just the first of six such back-to-backs, but the past seven years suggests it carries importance. Since 2009, Princeotn has gone 2-0 over the first weekend four times and has finished first or second in the league all four times. The other three years, when Princeton went 1-1 or 0-2, the Tigers finished third each time.
• Through Monday's games, Princeton had the top RPI in the Ivy League, and by a considerable margin. The Tigers were 62nd on the NCAA's official RPI list, 33 spots ahead of Yale (95).
• Through Monday's games, Princeton was the winningest team in New Jersey over Mitch Henderson's four-plus seasons guiding the Tigers. His 85 wins were two more than Seton Hall's 82 as the next-most wins over that span.
• Under Mitch Henderson, the Tigers now have a 34-29 (.540) record in the pre-New Year portion of the schedule and a 51-21 (.708) record from Jan. 1 forward.
• Princeton has made at least half its field goal tries seven times this season. Four of those occurrences have come in the team's last six games, against Bucknell, at Hampton, at Norfolk State and against Bryn Athyn.
• Princeton has shot .400 or better from the field 11 times in the 15 games this season and is 10-1 in those games (loss vs. Maryland). The Penn game was the first and only time this season Princeton won without shooting at least .400 from the field.
• Princeton has made 10 3-pointers in a game eight times this season, most recently against Bryn Athyn on Jan. 24.
• Junior Spencer Weisz has scored at least 10 points in six straight games through the Bryn Athyn game. It's the first time he's done that in his career, surpassing a run of scoring 10+ in five straight games from Feb. 15 to Mar. 1, 2014 as a freshman.
• Junior Henry Caruso, who is shooting .573 from the field, has made at least half his field goal tries in 11 of the 15 games this season. Princeton is 9-2 when Caruso makes at least half his tries and 2-2 when he doesn't.
• Princeton enters the weekend's games as the top team in the Ivy in scoring offense (78.3 ppg), turnover margin (+1.7), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.4), defensive rebounds (28.5 drpg) and defensive rebounding (.782). Individually, Princeton had the league's top two players in assist-to-turnover ratio, with Spencer Weisz at 3.6 and Amir Bell at 2.7.
• Entering Tuesday's games, Princeton was in the top 10 percent nationally (top 34) in six statistical categories, including two national No. 1 rankings in fewest total fouls (249) and fewest total turnovers (163). The Tigers were also 21st in 3s made per gmae (9.5), 23rd in personal fouls per game (16.6), 26th in defensive rebounds per game (28.53) and 26th in turnovers per game (10.9). Individually, Devin Cannady, Henry Caruso, Pete Miller and Spencer Weisz combined for 10 top-250 national statistical rankings, led by Weisz's 12th-ranked 3.6 assist-to-turnover ratio.
• Under Mitch Henderson, Princeton has scored 90 points in a game six times. That's more than all other post-Pete Carril coaches combined and the fourth-most under a coach in program history. Princeton scored 90+ 21 times under Pete Carril, 18 times under Butch van Breda Kolff and 11 times under Cappy Cappon.
• Princeton's top six scorers - Henry Caruso, Steven Cook, Devin Cannady, Spencer Weisz, Amir Bell and Pete Miller - have scored 925 of the team's 1175 points this season, or 78.7 percent.
• The number of 3-pointers Princeton makes hasn't been a predictor of wins so far this season. The Tigers are 6-2 when they make at least 10 3s and 5-2 when they make fewer than 10.
• Princeton's juniors (Caruso, Cook, Miller, Rayner, Weisz) have scored 653 of the team's 1175 points, or 55.6 percent. Players who are able to return next year have scored 99.1 percent of the team's points (1164 of 1175).
• Princeton has had seven double-doubles this season, including three in one game at Lipscomb, the first time that has happened in program history. Princeton's seven double-doubles this season, by four players (Caruso 3, Cook, Miller, Weisz 2) have already surpassed last year's five, which were all by Hans Brase. Princeton had seven double-doubles by four players in 2013-14 and 10 double-doubles by three players in 2010-11. Twenty-six double-doubles, by the 1964-65 and 1966-67 teams, is the program record.

• Yale was picked first in the Ivy League's preseason media poll, getting five first-place votes and 117 poll points, just ahead of second-place Columbia (six first-place votes, 114 poll points) and Princeton (six first-place votes, 108 poll points). Brown was picked fifth with 54 poll points.
• Brown was in the top 10 percent nationally (top 34) in one statistical category entering Tuesday's games. Brown's 319 fouls were the 27th-fewest in the country. Cedric Kuakumensah, Tavon Blackmon, Steven Spieth and J.R. Hobbie combined for 23 top-250 national statistical rankings, led by Kuakumensah's 21st-ranked 2.44 blocked shots per gmae and his 10.1 rebounds per game.
• Brown's starting lineup has had only one change this season. Steven Spieth (6-6), Tavon Blackmon (6-0), Cedric Kuakumensah (6-9) and Jason Massey (6-4) have started all 16 games and J.R. Hobbie (6-4) has started the last seven in place of Justin Massey, who started the first nine but is no longer on the team. Kuakumensah is the Bears' top scorer (13.8 ppg) and rebounder (10.1 rpg). He's also one of just two Ivy Leaguers to average a double-double this season, along with Harvard's Zena Edosomwan (13.9 ppg, 10.6 rpg).
• Yale was in the top 10 percent nationally (top 34) in five statistical categories entering Tuesday's games, and three of those were in the top 10 overall. Yale's +11.3 rebound margin was fifth, its 294 fouls were sixth-fewest, and its 15.13 offensive rebounds per game were seventh. Individually, the Bulldogs had Makai Mason, Justin Sears, Nick Victor, Brandon Sherrod and Jack Montague combine for 15 top-250 statistical rankings, led by Sears' 16th-best 3.79 offensive rebounds per game.
• Yale has had just six players start a game this season, with Jack Montague (6-0), Makai Mason (6-1), Nick Victor (6-5) and Brandon Sherrod (6-6) starting all 16 contests. Justin Sears (6-8) has started 13 games, with Sam Downey (6-9) stepping in for him against Albany, Bryant and Daniel Webster. Makai Mason enters the weekend just edging out Justin Sears as the Bulldogs' leading scorer at 15.38 ppg to Sears' 15.36, and Sherrod is the team's leading rebounder at 7.6 rpg.
• Brown counts Tavon Blackmon as the Ivy's assist leader at 5.1 apg and Cedric Kuakumensah as the league's top shot blocker at 2.4 bpg and minutes leader at 33.4 mpg. Yale's Justin Sears leads the Ivy in offensive rebounding at 3.8 orpg.

Mitch Henderson '98 is in his fifth season as Princeton's head coach. His overall record at Princeton is 85-50. Under Henderson, Princeton is 47-11 at home, 38-19 in the Ivy League, and 23-5 in the Ivy League at home. Princeton is 69-17 when leading at the half under Henderson. Henderson is the first Princeton coach since John Thompson III '88 (2000-04) to have winning seasons in each of his first four campaigns. He is the sixth Princeton coach to accomplish that, following Frederick Leuhring (1912-20), Butch van Breda Kolff '44 (1962-67), Pete Carril (1967-96), Bill Carmody (1996-2000) and Thompson III '88 (2000-04). Henderson is in seventh place on the Princeton all-time wins list. Bill Carmody, who was a Princeton assistant for Henderson's first two seasons and head coach for Henderson's last two, is in sixth place with 92 wins. Carmody hired Henderson as an assistant coach at Northwestern in 2000, where Henderson remained for 11 seasons until coming to Princeton. Henderson was a second-team All-Ivy Leaguer in 1998, an honorable mention All-Ivy Leaguer in 1997, and was a two-time Ivy Rookie of the Week in 1994-95. Henderson graduated as the fourth-leading assist man in program history (kept since 1974-75) and is now sixth, having been surpassed by two of his players, Ian Hummer '13 and T.J. Bray '14. Henderson graduated fifth in career steals (kept since 1974-75) and is now ninth, having been passed by former teammate Gabe Lewullis '99, Will Venable '05, Marcus Schroeder '10 and his former player T.J. Bray '14. Henderson is one of six Princeton alumni who are current Division I head coaches, including John Thompson III '88 (Georgetown), Joe Scott '87 (Denver), Mike Brennan '94 (American), Chris Mooney '94 (Richmond) and Sydney Johnson '97 (Fairfield). |
