PRINCETON, N.J. (1/27/16) - The Princeton men's hockey team travels to face No. 7 Harvard and Dartmouth this weekend, Jan. 29 & 30. Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m. Friday's nights game versus Harvard will be televised on NESN, and both games will be streamed on the Ivy League Digital Network.
EYE ON THE TIGERSPrinceton is coming off of a 1-0 win over American International on Tuesday evening. With the victory, the Tigers improve to 5-12-2 and are unbeaten in their last three games. Princeton is 3-7-2 in the ECAC, most recently tying Rensselaer and Union on Jan. 7 & 8 to sit in a tie for ninth place in the standings. Freshman Ryan Kuffner leads the team in scoring with 13 points on a team-best nine assists and four goals. Sophomore David Hallisey is also in double figures with 10 points on three goals and seven assists. Freshman Max Véronneau has scored the most goals on the team, seven, and adds two assists, while sophomore Eric Robinson has six goals and two assists. Junior Colton Phinney has started every game in net and has a .927 save percentage and a 2.80 goals against average.
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON
Harvard is 11-4-3 on the season and ranked No. 7 in both national polls this week. With a 7-3-3 ECAC record, the Crimson is second in the league standings, six points out of first, but also six points out of seventh place. This past weekend Harvard swept Cornell (4-2) and Colgate (6-2) on the road. Harvard averages 3.83 goals per game and has the second-best power play unit in the nation, converting 31.8 percent. Senior Jimmy Vesey (NSH) sits atop the scoring column with 30 points on 14 goals and 16 assists to rank second nationally. Senior Kyle Criscuolo has also scored 14 goals and adds seven helpers for 21 points. Together the pair has combined for nine of their team's 11 game-winning goals. Junior Alexander Kerfoot (NJD) has one more point with four goals and team-best 18 assists. Five others are in double digits in scoring. Sophomore Merrick Madsen (PHI) has started in 13 games and is 10-1-2 with a .933 save percentage and a 1.91 GAA. Backup Michael Lackey is 1-3-1.
THE PRINCETON/HARVARD SERIES
Harvard leads the all-time series, 151-57-11 and has won the last five meetings. Earlier this season, the Crimson won a 3-0 game at Hobey Baker Rink. It was a 1-0 game on a Jimmy Vesey first period goal, before Harvard scored two empty-net goals in the final 56 seconds. Shots were 42-38 in favor of Harvard, with Colton Phinney stopping 39 shots and Merrick Madsen turning away 38. Senior Kyle Rankin leads all current skaters against Harvard with three points in seven games, while Mike Ambrosia has two.
SCOUTING THE BIG GREEN
Dartmouth is receiving votes in this week's USCHO poll after hitting its stride lately. The Big Green has won its last five games and has lost just once since in the new year going 7-1. Last weekend Dartmouth posted a 3-0 shutout at Cornell followed by a 3-2 win at Colgate to improve to 10-8-1 overall and 7-5 in the league. Dartmouth is tied for fifth place in the tightly packed league standings with just three points separating second from fifth. Leading the way offensively is senior Jack Barre with 16 points on seven goals and nine assists. Senior Brett Patterson and sophomore Carl Hesler have 12 points apiece, with Patterson notching seven goals and five assists while Hesler has six of each. Three more have 10 or more points. Senior Charles Grant is 7-4 in his 11 starts in goal. He owns a .919 save percentage and a 2.14 GAA. Sophomore Devin Buffalo is next in line in minutes played with 225 and a 1-2-1 record.
THE PRINCETON/DARTMOUTH SERIES
Dartmouth owns a 101-86-14 lead in the all-time series and has won the last six meetings. Earlier this year, the Big Green took a 3-2 win at Hobey Baker Rink. Dartmouth had a three-goal first period before Princeton settled down and scored once in each period. James Kruger stopped 30 shots for Dartmouth while Colton Phinney had 32 stops. Mike Ambrosia leads the Tigers against Dartmouth with four points, while Kyle Rankin and Ryan Siiro have three each.
