Princeton Welcomes Top League Rivals To Open DeNunzio Sprint To Ivy Champs

VIDEO: Senior Duo Talks HYP Excitement, Appreciating Final DeNunzio Days
It's possible that Princeton's journey to the 2015 Ivy League championship gained its most traction during HYP weekend, when the Tigers rallied late — including a win in the final relay — to tie the Crimson in Boston. The top three contenders for the 2016 crown will look to begin a similar run during HYP weekend at DeNunzio Pool.
Princeton, Harvard and Yale will meet over two sessions this weekend, and the entire meet will be streamed on the Ivy League Digital Network. You can also follow the live results here.
Princeton enters the weekend as the reigning Ivy League champion, as well as the team that knows it won't have to leave DeNunzio Pool through the remainder of the Ivy season — including the championship weekend (Feb. 18-20 in Princeton). Harvard has yet to lose an HYP meet over the last four years, and it has matched the Tigers with two of the last four league crowns.
You would assume that one of those two teams would enter the weekend as the favorite, and most years you'd be right. But the numbers tell a different story this year, and it could make for a truly fascinating month in Ivy swimming & diving.
Yale, which led through 19 of 21 events at the 2015 Ivy Championships, has carried the momentum from that meet into a strong performance this season. In individual events, Princeton has four swimmers who rank among the Top 3 in the league at this point; Harvard has 11.
Yale has 18.
As senior Mallory Remick said in the HYP preview video (link above), the growth within the Yale program has been an exciting development in the league, and it has forced Princeton to continue pushing itself. While the seniors in the program are looking for a third Ivy title — and first outright HYP victory — this year, they are also excited to see how their talented freshman teammates handle this weekend. After all, several of them will be back on the blocks at DeNunzio in three weeks with hopes of bringing an Ivy-best 23rd league title back to Princeton.
