12th-Ranked Rutgers Claims Jersey Showdown, Tops Princeton In Jadwin
January 31, 2016 | Wrestling
Princeton, which ended a 24-match losing streak to Penn only one day earlier, simply couldn't string together victories against a Rutgers' lineup loaded with nationally ranked competitors. The Scarlet Knights sent six ranked wrestlers to the mat, and each came away with wins in front of an impressive crowd at Jadwin Gym.
Princeton got victories from its two top-ranked wrestlers. No. 11 Brett Harner finished off a 3-0 weekend with an 8-4 victory over Hayden Hrymack, while 14th-ranked Jonathan Schleifer closes the dual with a 6-3 win over Phil Bakuckas.
The Tigers will now turn their focus on the remainder of the Ivy League season. Four of the next five will be against Ivy rivals, including road matches next weekend at both Harvard and Brown. Both will be streamed live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
Princeton will head into the weekend with a 1-0 mark in the league, thanks to its 19-15 comeback win over Penn Saturday afternoon. The Tigers rallied with a 10-0 run over the final three matches to clinch the win.
