• The Quakers return 38 of their 52 points from last year's final meeting, a 73-52 Tiger win which was the largest margin of victory for any Princeton team over Penn at The Palestra. Princeton returns 40 of the 73, with Hans Brase (18) and Clay Wilson (11) representing the largest shares of points lost. No Quaker had more than Antonio Woods' eight points in that game, while Spencer Weisz scored 16 points to finish just behind team-leader Brase.
• The first of the two annual Princeton-Penn games was moved to before Princeton's finals break for the 2013 season, and while the Tigers won the 2013 and 2015 Ivy openers against the Quakers, Penn took the 2014 game at The Palestra, 77-74. Princeton won last year's league opener over Penn in Jadwin 78-74.
• While the Quakers have been away from competition since the win over Binghamton last Saturday, Princeton went to the Hampton Roads area and played two games since then, wins Sunday and Tuesday at Hampton and Norfolk State. The Tigers spread the minutes around, with no player going more than 26 minutes in Sunday's game and no one going more than 23 in Tuesday's.
• Princeton takes 43.4 percent of it field goal tries from 3-point range and hits at a .359 clip. Penn ranks 39th in Division I in 3-point FG percentage allowed, at .304. Penn's opponents have taken just 29.1 percent of their field goal tries from distance against the Quakers. For comparison, Penn takes 44.2 percent of its FGs from 3, and Princeton's opponents have taken 30.6 percent of their FG tries from distance.
• Through Wednesday's games, Princeton was the winningest team in New Jersey over Mitch Henderson's four-plus seasons guiding the Tigers. His 83 wins were two more than Seton Hall's 81 as the next-most wins over that span.
• Under Mitch Henderson, the Tigers now have a 34-29 (.540) record in the pre-New Year portion of the schedule and a 49-21 (.700) record from Jan. 1 forward.
• Princeton's .549 shooting percentage against Norfolk State marked the sixth time this season the Tigers have made at least half their field goal tries. Princeton is coming off a trip to Hampton and Norfolk State in which it shot .543 (63-116) from the field.
• Princeton has shot .400 or better from the field 10 times in the 13 games this season and is 9-1 in those games (loss vs. Maryland). Princeton is 0-3 when not shooting at least .400.
• Princeton's 10 3-pointers against Norfolk State marked the seventh time this season the Tigers have poured in at least 10 3s in a game.
• The Tigers saw a couple of underclassmen set career bests over the Virginia trip, with sophomore Alec Brennan going 4 for 4 from the field at Hampton to put in a career-best 10 points and rookie Myles Stephens went 5 for 5 from the field at Norfolk State to net a career-best 11 points. Sophomore Aaron Young's eight points at Norfolk State were a season-best.
• After going 7 for 9 from the field on the Virginia trip, including 6 of 8 from 3, freshman Devin Cannady is 18 of 21 (.857) from the field over the last four games. He was 22 of 58 (.379) from the field over the first nine games. Cannady is 11 of 15 (.733) from 3-point range over the last four games and is shooting .472 (25-53) from distance on the season.
• After going 7 of 15 from the field on the Virginia trip, junior Spencer Weisz has hit at least 40 percent from the field in each of the last five games after not hitting at least 40 percent from the field in back-to-back games until this current five-game stretch. Weisz also has a 13:2 assist-to-turnover ratio over the last five games.
• Junior Henry Caruso went 12 of 17 from the field on the Virginia trip, boosting his field goal percentage to .591 on the season. He has made at least half his tries from the field in 10 of the 13 games this season.
• Princeton entered Friday as the Ivy League's top scoring team, averaging 77.1 points per game. The Tigers were also first in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.4), and defensive rebounding percentage (.788). Princeton was also second in scoring margin (+8.0, Yale +8.2), field goal percentage (.453, Harvard .458), rebounding offense (37.8, Yale 41.8), rebounding margin (+4.1, Yale +11.8), steals (6.6, Cornell 7.9), turnover margin (+1.08, Dartmouth +1.42), defensive rebounds (27.7, Brown 28.4) and 3s made per game (9.4, Columbia 10.3).
• Entering Thursday's games, Princeton was in the top 10 percent nationally (top 34) in four statistical categories, including fewest turnovers (10th, 141), fewest fouls (22nd, 226), 3s per game (29th, 9.4) and turnovers per game (30th, 10.8). Henry Caruso, Pete Miller, Devin Cannady and Spencer Weisz combined for 14 top-250 individual rankings, led by Cannady's No. 8 ranking in free-throw percentage at .917.
• Princeton's 77.08 ppg average isn't far from the team record for a season-ending scoring average of 79.74, set in 1971-72.
• Under Mitch Henderson, Princeton has scored 90 points in a game five times. That's more than all other post-Pete Carril coaches combined and the fourth-most under a coach in program history. Princeton scored 90+ 21 times under Pete Carril, 18 times under Butch van Breda Kolff and 11 times under Cappy Cappon.
• Junior Henry Caruso is on pace to score 478 points this season (28 games), which would be the most at Princeton since Ian Hummer scored 515 points in 32 games in 2011-12. With 222 points, he has also surpassed his total from all of last season, 176. He scored three points as a rookie. Caruso remains the team leader in rebounding at 6.6 rpg and has three double-doubles this season, the first three of his career.
• Princeton has no player in the top nine in the league in rebounding, but the Tigers have four in the top 20, including Henry Caruso (10th, 6.6), Spencer Weisz (11th, 6.0), Pete Miller (12th, 5.8) and Steven Cook (18th, 4.8). No other team has more than three players in the Ivy's top 20 in rebounding.
• Princeton's top six scorers - Henry Caruso, Steven Cook, Devin Cannady, Spencer Weisz, Amir Bell and Pete Miller - have scored 798 of the team's 1002 points this season, or 79.6 percent.
• The number of 3-pointers Princeton makes hasn't been a predictor of wins so far this season. The Tigers are 5-2 when they make at least 10 3s and 4-2 when they make fewer than 10.
• Princeton's juniors (Caruso, Cook, Miller, Rayner, Weisz) have scored 569 of the team's 1002 points, or 56.8 percent. Players who are able to return next year have scored 99.3 percent of the team's points (995 of 1002).
• Princeton has had seven double-doubles this season, including three in one game at Lipscomb, the first time that has happened in program history. Princeton's seven double-doubles this season, by four players (Caruso 3, Cook, Miller, Weisz 2) have already surpassed last year's five, which were all by Hans Brase. Princeton had seven double-doubles by four players in 2013-14 and 10 double-doubles by three players in 2010-11. Twenty-six double-doubles, by the 1964-65 and 1966-67 teams, is the program record.

• The Quakers have the only coach in the Ivy who is in his first year at his current post, but Steve Donahue is no stranger to the Ivy. The Delaware County (Pa.) native and Ursinus College grad has spent all but four seasons since 1990 in the Ivy, first with 10 years as an assistant at Penn under current Temple coach Fran Dunphy, then for 10 years as head coach at Cornell with a run that included three straight Ivy titles (2008-10), the most recent 14-0 run through the Ivy (2008) and the league's most recent NCAA Sweet 16 appearance (2010). Donahue then went to be the head coach at Boston College for four seasons through 2014.
• Entering Thursday's games, Penn was in the top 10 percent of the country in one statistical category, fewest fouls. Penn's 224 fouls were the 19th fewest in Division I. Individually, Darien Nelson-Henry, Antonio Woods and Sam Jones combined for 13 top-250 statistical rankings, led by Nelson-Henry's 39th-best .586 field goal percentage.
• Nine Penn players have started a game this season, and two Quakers, Matt Howard and Antonio Woods, have started all 13 games. Darien Nelson-Henry and Sam Jones have each started at least 11 of the 13. Penn has used a distinct starting five in each of the last four games, starting nine players over those four contests.
• Penn broke a seven-game losing streak against Division I programs with its largest win of the season, an 80-45 triumph over Binghamton last Saturday. The skid came after Penn had started the season 4-1.

Mitch Henderson '98 is in his fifth season as Princeton's head coach. His overall record at Princeton is 83-50. Under Henderson, Princeton is 46-11 at home, 37-19 in the Ivy League, and 23-5 in the Ivy League at home. Princeton is 67-17 when leading at the half under Henderson. Henderson is the first Princeton coach since John Thompson III '88 (2000-04) to have winning seasons in each of his first four campaigns. He is the sixth Princeton coach to accomplish that, following Frederick Leuhring (1912-20), Butch van Breda Kolff '44 (1962-67), Pete Carril (1967-96), Bill Carmody (1996-2000) and Thompson III '88 (2000-04). Henderson is in seventh place on the Princeton all-time wins list. Bill Carmody, who was a Princeton assistant for Henderson's first two seasons and head coach for Henderson's last two, is in sixth place with 92 wins. Carmody hired Henderson as an assistant coach at Northwestern in 2000, where Henderson remained for 11 seasons until coming to Princeton. Henderson was a second-team All-Ivy Leaguer in 1998, an honorable mention All-Ivy Leaguer in 1997, and was a two-time Ivy Rookie of the Week in 1994-95. Henderson graduated as the fourth-leading assist man in program history (kept since 1974-75) and is now sixth, having been surpassed by two of his players, Ian Hummer '13 and T.J. Bray '14. Henderson graduated fifth in career steals (kept since 1974-75) and is now ninth, having been passed by former teammate Gabe Lewullis '99, Will Venable '05, Marcus Schroeder '10 and his former player T.J. Bray '14. Henderson is one of six Princeton alumni who are current Division I head coaches, including John Thompson III '88 (Georgetown), Joe Scott '87 (Denver), Mike Brennan '94 (American), Chris Mooney '94 (Richmond) and Sydney Johnson '97 (Fairfield). |
