MADISON, Wisc. (10/14/16) – For the third time this season, senior Alexandra Markovich was the top finisher for the Princeton women's cross country team. The Tigers finished 29th at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational in the invitational race, and also competed in the open race.
Markovich posted a time of 21:34.9 on the 6k Thomas Zimmer course. Junior Melissa Reed was the second Tiger across the line at 21:43.6, followed by sophomore Alie Fordyce at 21:53.3. Rachael Granovsky was just two seconds back at 21:55.8 with junior Melinda Renuart posting a 22:35.4 as the final scorer. Sophomore Brighie Leach and freshman Ally Rome were the displacers at 22:41.5 and 23:02.1.
"Today was a tough one for the Tigers," head coach Brad Hunt said. "The Wisconsin Invitational had 19 nationally ranked teams in the field, providing the best team competition we have experienced this season. Our strength is the pack, and we did not compete nearly as well as a group compared to our last performance at Paul Short. We will continue to progress as a team as we focus on good health and racing the way we practice. The championship season is ahead and we look forward to the next opportunity to compete as a team at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships."
The Tigers had four finishers in the open race and were led by senior Nicole Marvin's time of 22:22.4. Senior Rachael Chacko, who led the team at the Fordham Fiasco in a race of middle distance runners, clocked 22:26.0. Junior Delaney Miller ran 23:08.2 and competing for the first time this season was senior Lizzie Bird, running a comfortable 23:49.2.
Princeton hosts the Princeton Cross Country Invitational tomorrow morning at West Windsor Fields. The women's 6k race is slated for a 9 a.m., start.
