Princeton Goes International on Fall Break
October 25, 2016 | Women's Lacrosse
PRINCETON, N.J. (10/25/16) - The Princeton women's lacrosse team departs on an international trip to both Europe and Africa during the University's fall break. The team will visit both Amsterdam and South Africa.
The team is scheduled to leave the US on Friday, Oct. 28 and will arrive in Amsterdam on Oct. 29. The Tigers will face the Dutch national team on both Oct. 29 and Oct. 30 while also sightseeing both Amsterdam and Zwolle.
Princeton departs for Cape Town on Oct. 31 with a full slate of activities planned. Adventures include a cable car to the top of Table Mountain, surf lessons, shark cage diving, a safari and ziplining. The team will also spend time on Robben Island, the infamous island where Nelson Mandela was held as prisoner for 27 years. Activities with locals including putting on a lacrosse clinic, helping at a local farm and assisting at a children's orphanage are also planned.
"We're incredibly excited to have the opportunity to travel internationally with the 2017 team, in what promises to be a trip of a lifetime for our players, coaches and staff, and we're eternally grateful to the Princeton lacrosse alumni, parents and friends who established the endowment that has made this trip possible for our team," head coach Chris Sailer said. "Our travels will give us the chance to compete on the international stage, while experiencing new cultures, learning about the history and peoples of two very different countries, engaging in service abroad, and taking part in adventure activities that will require us to stretch beyond our normal comfort levels. There's nothing quite like a trip of this kind to cement a team's bonds and help us prepare for the season ahead." Â
The team is scheduled to return on Nov. 6.
Note: Netherlands and South Africa are six-hours ahead of the East Coast.
