Day, Gamble Fall in ITA Regional Semifinals
October 24, 2016 | Men's Tennis
Play at the ITA Northeast Regional at Penn came to an end Monday for the Princeton men's tennis team as the nationally 21st-ranked doubles pair of Luke Gamble and Alex Day fell 6-4, 6-4 to Shawn Hadavi and Jackie Tang from Columbia.
"It was a very clean, hard-fought match by both teams," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "The level was impressive, but unfortunately we missed on several break points and just couldn't quite convert to turn the momentum. I believe we were 0 for 6 on break points while Columbia seized the ones they had. Though disappointing, it was a good effort and we'll get back to work after midterms this week and prepare for our fall break trip. We also need to get some guys healthy as we had four starters from last year's team not competing in singles for this event. Hopefully we'll get a couple of those guys back soon as we start to prepare for the spring season."
Day and Gamble were also regional semifinalists last year. Princeton also had a semifinalist in Zack McCourt and Matija Pecotic in 2012 after Matt Siow and Matt Spindler won the regional doubles title in 2011.
Princeton will be away from competition next weekend before sending players to Georgia's Bulldog Scramble and the Lakewood Ranch Invitational in Sarasota, Fla., both Nov. 4-6.
