Princeton Men's Lacrosse: Portugal Day 1

The Princeton men's lacrosse team rolled into Monte Gordo, a coastal town on Portugal's border with Spain, a mere 20 hours after it first rolled out of the Caldwell Field House parking lot.
So yes, it was a long day, and night, and day again for the Tigers, even if they lost four hours along the way to a time change.
Princeton's fall break trip to Portugal began with a trip to Kennedy Airport, one that included the usual New York City traffic issues. Once at the airport, the travel party of 57 waited for nearly four hours before getting on the plane, and the wheels of the giant TAP Airbus 330 left the JFK runway at 11:45 Eastern time.
Princeton reached Portugal a little more than six hours later, making it after 10 AM local time. The flight across the Atlantic was 95 percent smooth and five percent wild turbulence, including one brief episode in which the plane lurched, dropped and flinched sideways without any advanced warning, only to go back to perfectly smooth after about 15 seconds or so.
Once on the ground in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, Princeton met up with Francisco, its guide for the week, and then left on a three-hour bus ride south, to Monte Gordo. After checking into the hotel a block off the Atlantic Ocean, it was off to a practice at a nearby soccer stadium, with a small clinic beforehand for some local at-risk teenagers.
After the clinic and practice, Princeton came back to the hotel for dinner and then some exploring of the local area.
The agenda for Monday is a busy one, with walking tours of three separate ares of the Algarve region of Portugal. Princeton will be in this part of the country until Wednesday, when it will return to Lisbon for more sightseeing - and three games against the English national team.
