Phinney Named to Mike Richter Award Watch List

He is one of 20 goalies named to the watch list, which annually honors the most outstanding goaltender in NCAA Division I men's hockey. The winner of the fourth annual award will be announced at the 2017 NCAA Men's Frozen Four in Chicago.
Phinney enters the season with the second-most saves in the nation, behind Colgate's Charlie Finn, with 2,450. As a junior, Phinney set the Princeton program record for saves in a single season with 1,058 surpassing the previous mark set by Erasmo Saltarelli by 188. He currently sits third all-time in saves at Princeton behind Ronald Dennis' 2,951 (1980-83) and All-America and Hobey Baker candidate Zane Kalemba's 2,680 (2006-10). Phinney captured second-team All-Ivy League honors in 2015-16 when he finished the season with a .924 save percentage. During his career he has made 30+ saves in 55 games with the most being 51 in a game against Harvard in 2014-15.
Princeton opens the 2016-17 season on Friday, Oct. 28 at Michigan State.
