Men's Squash Team Caps Impressive Opener With 8-1 Win Over George Washington
November 20, 2016 | Men's Squash
The Princeton men's squash team knows it must take one step at a time on its path back to the Top 8 and the 'A' flight of the CSA National Championships, and it handled that first step in impressive fashion this weekend.
The Tigers came into the weekend ranked 12th nationally, and they were welcoming both the 11th- and 13th-ranked teams to the Jadwin Squash Courts. One day after knocking off No. 13 F&M, Princeton took down the 11th-ranked George Washington Colonials 8-1 to make a strong opening statement to the 2016-17 season.
The freshman duo of Adhitya Raghavan (pictured) and Gabriel Morgan proved their mettle at the top of the lineup. Raghavan moved to 2-0 at the No. 1 spot with a 3-1 win over Jamie Oakley, while classmate Gabriel Morgan added a 3-1 win of his own at No. 2.
The highlight match of the afternoon came at No. 8, where Komron Shayegan righted the ship after a tough third and fourth games to defeat Omar Mussehi 11-9 in the match-clinching fifth.
The Tigers will be off next weekend, and then will head to New York for a challenging road pair against No. 3 Rochester and No. 4 St. Lawrence.
