November 08, 2016 | Men's Ice Hockey
Mike Condon '13 was traded to the Ottawa Senators last week for from the Pittsburgh Penguins for a 2017 fifth-round draft pick.
Condon was picked up on waivers by the Penguins in October and played in one game but stopped all seven shots he faced - against Nashville on Oct. 22. He spent the 2015-16 season as the starting goaltender for the Montreal Canadiens after an injury sidelines Carey Price for the season. Condon finished with a .903 save percentage and a 2.71 in 55 games played.
Condon has been named the backup for Craig Anderson, whose wife is battling cancer and assigned Matt O'Connor to the American Hockey League.
The Massachusetts native made his debut with the Senators on Thursday, Nov. 3, pitching a 27-save shutout against Vancouver. He stopped 12 shots in the third including a breakway halfway through, blocked a shot from the bottom of the left circle with eight minutes remaining and used his blocker on a quick release shot just outside the crease with seven minutes left.
Condon, who last played Oct. 22 in relief of Marc-Andre Fleury, said it helped that the Senators allowed 15 shots through two periods.
"When I got put on waivers, then when I wasn't playing in Pittsburgh, it was just a daily test of faith. I put the work in then and I knew I'd get rewarded for it." -- Ottawa Senators goaltender Mike Condon

"That's huge, considering I haven't played in probably three weeks (and had a) transcontinental flight," Condon said. "It gave me time to get into the groove, you could say. It was just nice to get a win."
