Third-Ranked Rochester Proves Too Much For Princeton In 8-1 Win
December 04, 2016 | Men's Squash
The 12th-ranked Princeton men's squash team finished its toughest road weekend of the season with an 8-1 loss Sunday afternoon at third-ranked Rochester. Tiger junior Komron Shayegan brought Princeton its lone win, as he scored a four-game victory over Rodrigo Porras at the No. 8 spot.
As the Tigers did in their Saturday loss at fourth-ranked St. Lawrence, the visitors showed that they were ready to be competitive with the highest tier in the sport, but not quite ready to pull off a big road win. Four Princeton players pushed their Yellowjacket opponents beyond three games, and senior co-captain Ben Leizman nearly gave the Tigers their second win. He led Michelangelo Bertocchi 2-1 at the No. 7 spot and got to extra points in the fourth, but losses of 13-11 and 11-5 ultimately closed the match.
Freshman Adhitya Raghavan played three highly competitive games against Ryosei Kobayashi, one of the top players in the country, and he even managed a 17-15 win to temporarily even the match at 1-1. Kobayashi ultimately wore the Tiger freshman down and claimed the 3-1 win.
Princeton will now take more than a month off, and it will return to the court for an even greater test before the start of Ivy League play. On Monday, Jan. 9, Princeton will host Trinity at 12 pm.
