COMPLETE RESULTS
Christie Chong, Gianna Garcia, Carolyn MacFarlane (pictured) were each double-winners for the Princeton women's swimming and diving team Friday afternoon, as the Tigers closed the first half of their season with an impressive 177.5-120.5 victory over Columbia at Uris Pool in New York City.
MacFarlane got the meet started on the right note with a thrilling win in the 3-meter diving competition. She scored 286.88 to claim the event by less than a point. She won the 1-meter event later in the competition with 273.08 points.
Garcia helped get the swim portion off on a strong note by leading off the winning 400 medley relay, which finished in 3:46.66. Janet Zhao, Isabel Reis, and Maddy Veith made up the remainder of the victorious quartet.
Sophomore Monica McGrath kept her winning streak alive — she's won at least one event in every meet this year — by taking the 500 free in 5:01.79. The freshman duo of Chong (200 IM, 2:03.63) and Garcia (50 back, 26.49) followed with victories, putting Princeton in a strong position early in the meet. After a runner-up finish in the 50 breast, the Tigers made a strong move with a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 fly. Jocelyn Wang claimed the overall win in 57.04.
Veith was the runner-up in both the 50 and 100 free, and Garcia followed by taking the 100 back in 55.62. Reis and McGrath put on a show in the 200 free, with Reis (1:52.70) winning the event by .01 of a second. Elsa Welshofer won the 50 fly in 25.71, and Chong claimed the IM double by winning the 100 in 57.71.
Princeton concludes the first half of its season with a 4-2 record, including a 4-1 mark in the Ivy League. The Tigers will return to DeNunzio Pool for their home finale and Senior Day Jan. 13 when they take on Villanova at 4 pm. You can watch that meet live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
