• It's a key showdown Saturday night between teams that hope to keep pace in the Ivy League race. While Yale remained perfect with a win at Dartmouth Friday night to stand at 7-0 in league play, Columbia beat Penn to stand a game back at 6-1 and Princeton also won to enter tonight a game and a half off the pace at 5-1.
• Princeton swept seven straight Cornell-Columbia trips from 1994-2000, a span that includes Mitch Henderson's tenure as a player. Over the last 15 years, however, the trip has been trickier, with just six sweeps (2002, 2003, 2004, 2011, 2013, 2014), five splits (2005, 2006, 2010, 2012, 2015) and four winless trips (2001, 2007, 2008, 2009). Of the five splits, the loss was at Cornell four times, except in 2006.
• A sweep would put Princeton in its best position at the halfway mark since the Ivy title season of 2011, when Princeton was 7-0 at the turn. Princeton's best standing seven games into the Ivy season since then was in 2013, when the Tigers, at 5-2, went on to lead the Ivy race entering the final weekend. Unlike 2013, however, if the Tigers can get through this road weekend unscathed, it would leave Princeton at 6-1 with five of its final seven games at home. That year, Princeton built its 4-1 Ivy start before enduring seven of the last nine games on the road.
• If the season-long stats are an indication, in Saturday's game look for both teams to fire from the perimeter. Columbia is averaging an Ivy-best 9.79 3-pointers made per game while Princeton is just about there at a second-best 9.75 made 3s per game. The Tigers boast the best 3-point shooter in the Ivy by field goal percentage in Henry Caruso (.517, 30-58), while Columbia's Maodo Lo has made the most 3s in the Ivy this season, making 69 (of 178 tries, a .388 clip). The teams are also right next to each other in 3-point field goal percentage, with Princeton third in the league at .3743 and Columbia fourth at .3736. Columbia's fifth in the Ivy at defending the 3 (.342) and Princeton is seventh at .366. That said, the Tigers haven't made more than nine 3s in any of the six consecutive wins at Columbia, nor have they tried more than 17. Princeton has made at least 10 3s 12 times in 20 games this season, including in each of the last four games, and the team is averaging 26 3s attempted.
• Princeton's Class of '09 went winless at Columbia's Levien Gym. Since, Princeton has won six in a row in Morningside Heights and has shot a combined .513 from the field and .475 from 3-point range over those six games. Last year, the Tigers shot .542 from the field (26-48) and .600 (9-15) from 3 in their visit to Columbia. This season, the Lions are allowing opponents a .433 clip from the field and .343 from distance. Of Princeton's 74 points from last year's game at Levien, 38 are back, but Caruso accounted for only two of those. For Columbia's part, the Lions have 60 of their 62 points back with leading scorer Maodo Lo (15.7 ppg this year) turning in a game-high 21 points in the Tigers' 12-point win.
• Columbia has multiple non-conference opponents in common with Princeton. Both the Tigers and Lions beat Bucknell and lost to Saint Joseph's and Stony Brook.
• Through Thursday's games, Princeton's RPI was 56th, seven spots ahead of Yale's at 63. The Tigers were 61 spots in front of the next-closest Ivy team, Columbia at 117.
• Through Friday's games, Princeton was the winningest team in New Jersey over Mitch Henderson's four-plus seasons guiding the Tigers. His 89 wins were three more than Seton Hall's 86 as the next-most wins over that span.
• Under Mitch Henderson, the Tigers now have a 34-29 (.540) record in the pre-New Year portion of the schedule and a 55-22 (.714) record from Jan. 1 forward.
• Princeton has made at least half its field goal tries 10 times this season, including in each of the last three games, and Princeton has shot .400 or better from the field 16 times in the season's 20 games. The Tigers are 14-2 in those games (loss vs. Maryland, at Yale). The Penn game was the first and only time this season Princeton won without shooting at least .400 from the field.
• Princeton has made 10 3-pointers in a game 12 times this season, including in each of the last three games.
• Junior Henry Caruso, who is shooting .572 from the field on the season, has made at least half his field goal tries in 16 of the 20 games this season. Princeton is 13-3 when Caruso makes at least half his tries and 2-2 when he doesn't.
• Princeton enters Saturday's games as the top team in the Ivy in scoring offense (79.2 ppg), turnover margin (+2.20), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.4), defensive rebounds (27.8 drpg) and defensive rebounding (.774). Individually, Princeton has the Ivy's top free throw shooter in Devin Cannady (.889), the top 3-point shooter by percentage in Henry Caruso (.517, 30-58) and has the league's top player in assist-to-turnover ratio, with Spencer Weisz at 3.0.
• Entering Tuesday's games, Princeton was in the top 10 percent nationally (top 34) in six statistical categories, including a national No. 2 ranking in fewest total fouls (344, UCF 342) and No. 4 in fewest total turnovers (219, Temple 214). The Tigers were also 15th in 3s per game (9.8), 29th in turnovers per game (11.0), 26th in scoring margin (+12.3) and 31st in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.39). Individually, Henry Caruso, Pete Miller and Spencer Weisz combined for five top-250 national statistical rankings, led by Weisz's 26th-ranked 3.04 assist-to-turnover ratio.
• Under Mitch Henderson, Princeton has scored 90 points in a game six times. That's more than all other post-Pete Carril coaches combined and the fourth-most under a coach in program history. Princeton scored 90+ 21 times under Pete Carril, 18 times under Butch van Breda Kolff and 11 times under Cappy Cappon.
• Princeton's top six scorers - Henry Caruso, Steven Cook, Devin Cannady, Spencer Weisz, Amir Bell and Pete Miller - have scored 1262 of the team's 1584 points this season, or 79.7 percent.
• The number of 3-pointers Princeton makes hasn't been a true predictor of wins so far this season. The Tigers are 9-3 when they make at least 10 3s and 6-2 when they make fewer than 10.
• Princeton's juniors (Caruso, Cook, Miller, Rayner, Weisz) have scored 895 of the team's 1584 points, or 56.5 percent. Players who are able to return next year have scored 99.1 percent of the team's points (1569 of 1584).
• Princeton has had seven double-doubles this season, including three in one game at Lipscomb, the first time that has happened in program history. Princeton's seven double-doubles this season, by four players (Caruso 3, Cook, Miller, Weisz 2) have already surpassed last year's five, which were all by Hans Brase. Princeton had seven double-doubles by four players in 2013-14 and 10 double-doubles by three players in 2010-11. Twenty-six double-doubles, by the 1964-65 and 1966-67 teams, is the program record.

• Entering Friday's games, Columbia's top national statistical ranking was its 14th-most 9.8 3s made per game. Individually, Maodo Lo's 57 steals ranked ninth in the nation. Lo, Grant Mullins, Luke Petrasek and Alex Rosenberg combined for 18 top-250 national statistical rankings.
• 6-3 Maodo Lo, 6-3 Grant Mullins, 6-10 Luke Petrasek, 6-7 Alex Rosenberg and 6-4 Kyle Castlin account for 98 of Columbia's 120 starts over the Lions' 23 games. Friday night against Penn, 6-4 Isaac Cohen started in place of Castlin, who came off the bench. Rosenberg missed five games in December and January, but the Lions went 4-1 in those games with the loss coming at Stony Brook.
• Columbia leads the Ivy with 9.8 made 3s per game, and Lo leads the league in steals at 2.4 per game and in 3s made at 2.9 per game.

| Mitch Henderson '98 is in his fifth season as Princeton's head coach. His overall record at Princeton is 89-51. Under Henderson, Princeton is 49-11 at home, 42-20 in the Ivy League, and 25-5 in the Ivy League at home. Princeton is 73-17 when leading at the half under Henderson. Henderson is the first Princeton coach since John Thompson III '88 (2000-04) to have winning seasons in each of his first four campaigns. He is the sixth Princeton coach to accomplish that, following Frederick Leuhring (1912-20), Butch van Breda Kolff '44 (1962-67), Pete Carril (1967-96), Bill Carmody (1996-2000) and Thompson III '88 (2000-04). Henderson is in seventh place on the Princeton all-time wins list. Bill Carmody, who was a Princeton assistant for Henderson's first two seasons and head coach for Henderson's last two, is in sixth place with 92 wins. Carmody hired Henderson as an assistant coach at Northwestern in 2000, where Henderson remained for 11 seasons until coming to Princeton. Henderson was a second-team All-Ivy Leaguer in 1998, an honorable mention All-Ivy Leaguer in 1997, and was a two-time Ivy Rookie of the Week in 1994-95. Henderson graduated as the fourth-leading assist man in program history (kept since 1974-75) and is now sixth, having been surpassed by two of his players, Ian Hummer '13 and T.J. Bray '14. Henderson graduated fifth in career steals (kept since 1974-75) and is now ninth, having been passed by former teammate Gabe Lewullis '99, Will Venable '05, Marcus Schroeder '10 and his former player T.J. Bray '14. Henderson is one of six Princeton alumni who are current Division I head coaches, including John Thompson III '88 (Georgetown), Joe Scott '87 (Denver), Mike Brennan '94 (American), Chris Mooney '94 (Richmond) and Sydney Johnson '97 (Fairfield). |
