PRINCETON, N.J. (2/22/16) - Two undefeated teams met on Wednesday afternoon as No. 9 Princeton travels to Drexel. Game time is at 4 p.m., at Vidas Field.
EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton kickstarted the season with a 14-7 win over No. 4 Virginia on Saturday. The Tigers moved up to No. 9 in the IWLCA and Inside Lacrosse media poll this week. Junior Olivia Hompe led the offense with three goals and two assists, while sophomore Abby Finkelston had three goals on four shots. Sophomore Ellie McNulty scorerd twice. Junior Amanda Leavell had a team-best four draw controls and caused three turnovers, along with a goal and an assist. Senior defender Liz Bannantine picked up two ground balls. Junior Ellie DeGarmo made a career high 13 saves in the win.
The teams met for the first time last year, an 8-4 Princeton win. Olivia Hompe scored half of the Tigers' goal, while Erin McMunn had a goal and three assists. Ellie DeGarmo made 11 saves. Devin Nihill scored twice for the Dragons. Princeton jumped out to a 5-0 lead at halftime and did a tremendous job on the ride, forcing Drexel into six failed clears on 10 attempts in the first half. Princeton held a 10-4 edge in draw controls and won the ground ball battle 17-13. Drexel improved on clearing in the second half, missing just once, to finish 12 for 19, while Princeton was 10 for 12.
SCOUTING THE DRAGONS
Drexel is 2-0 on the season after a 14-4 win over American in the season opener on Feb. 14, and a 6-5 win over Columbia last Saturday. The Dragons are receiving votes in the media poll this week. Sophomore Nadia Pelham-Lacey has eight points on three goals a team-best five assists. Senior Emily Duffey has scored a team-high six goals, while junior Devin Nihill has four and junior Lacey Aghazarian has three. Junior Eva Winiarski has won the most draws, six, while senior Milan White has four draw wins and four caused turnovers. Only junior Caroline Thiele has more caused turnovers, with five, and has 10 ground balls. Junior Carlee Ries has started in goal for both games and has a 4.12 GAA and a .636 save percentage.
