DeGarmo Named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week
February 23, 2016 | Women's Lacrosse
Princeton junior goalie Ellie DeGarmo was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week in the first week of Ivy League lacrosse season.
DeGarmo backstopped her team to a 14-7 upset of then-No. 5 Virginia, with a career-high 13 saves against the Cavaliers. DeGarmo posted a 65.0 save percentage while holding UVA to seven goals, its lowest scoring total since finishing with six against Notre Dame in the 2015 ACC Tournament. DeGarmo limited Virginia to just two goals in the second half and stopped all seven shots she faced after the Tigers took a 9-7 lead with 18 minutes remaining in the game. DeGarmo takes home her second career Defensive Player of the Week honor and first as the sole recipient.
She was also named the GoPrincetonTigers.com Athlete of the Week and is a nominee for the Inside Lacrosse national player of the week.
Princeton returns to action on Wednesday afternoon, traveling to Philadelphia to face unbeaten Drexel. Game time is at 4 p.m.
