PRINCETON, N.J. (2/3/16) - The Princeton men's hockey team will honor its Class of 2016 on Saturday, Feb. 27 when it hosts Brown on Senior Day at 7 p.m. But first the Tigers will take on Yale on Friday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m.
The team will hold a fundraiser, in conjunction with the women's team, for former Princeton captain Denna Laing '14 who suffered an injury in the Women's Winter Classic in January. #14strong beanies will be available for purchase, chuck-a-puck contest and a jersey auction with all proceeds goinng to the Denna Laing Fund.
EYE ON THE TIGERSPrinceton can finish between 10-12 in the ECAC standings as the Tigers currently have a 3-15-2 league record. Overall Princeton is 5-20-2. The Tigers' offense is led by a pair of freshmen: Ryan Kuffner and Max Véronneau. Kuffner has 19 points on five goals and a team-best 14 assists, while Véronneau has scored a team-high nine goals and adds five assists. Sophomore David Hallisey chips in 11 points, while classmate Eric Robinson adds 10. Junior Colton Phinney has started in all but one game this season and has a .924 save percentage and a 2.84 goals against average.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
No. 7 Yale is one of the hottest teams in college hockey right now, riding a seven-game win streak and has lost just once in the last 17 games. The Bulldogs have the best scoring defense in the nation, allowing just 1.63 goals per game, though they allowed four in the first meeting this year, and have the nation's best penalty kill at 93.8 percent. Freshman Joe Snively is the point leader with 26 points on 10 goals and 16 assists. Senior Stu Wilson has a team-best 17 helpers and six goals for 23 points. Junior John Hayden (CHI) has scored the most goals, 15 total, and adds seven assists for 22 points. Junior Alex Lyon has started in all but one game in goal. He the nation's best save percentage at .941 and is sixth in goals against average at 1.51.
THE PRINCETON/YALE SERIES
Princeton won the last meeting with Yale, a 4-2 decision at Ingalls Rink on Dec. 5. Junior Ryan Siiro scored the game-winning goal at 16:25 of the third period and leads all Tigers against the Elis with five points in seven games. Junior Colton Phinney has a .905 save percentage, making 191 saves on 211 shots. Yale leads the all-time series 139-104-11, while Princeton has a 47-46-4 edge when playing in Princeton.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Like Princeton, Brown can finished between 10-12 in the ECAC as the Bears are currently 10th with a 3-12-5 league record. Overall Brown is 5-16-6 and is unbeaten in its last three games, going 1-0-2 with a 5-2 win at Clarkson and two ties with St. Lawrence and Cornell. Senior Nick Lappin leads the offense with 32 points on 16 goals and 16 assists. Freshman Tommy Marchin has 14 goals and 11 assists for 25 points and senior Mark Naclerio is four points back with 21. Freshman Max Gottlieb leads the rookies and the defenders in points with 20 on two goals and 18 helpers. Junior Tim Ernst has started in 23 of 27 games and has a 2.91 GAA and an .898 save percentage.
THE PRINCETON/BROWN SERIES
Princeton took Game 1 of the series this season, a 4-2 decision in Providence in December. Junior Garrett Skrbich scored the go-ahead goal in the second and classmate Ryan Siiro sealed the win with an empty-net goal in the final minute. Junior Ben Foster leads the skaters with three points in four games, while junior Colton Phinney has a .926 save percentage a 2-1-1 record against the Bears.
