Senior Duo Powers Volleyball To Important Victory Over Sacred Heart
February 27, 2016 | Men's Volleyball
Seniors Devin Stearns and Zach Shaw have been to the EIVA postseason every year of their Princeton careers, and they did everything they could to help the Tigers' 2016 chase Saturday afternoon at Dillon Gym. The duo combined for 32 of Princeton's 52 kills in a 3-1 home win over Sacred Heart.
The victory moves Princeton into a three-way tie — along with Sacred Heart and Saint Francis — for third place in the league with a 3-3 record.
Princeton reversed its Friday fortune early, claiming a tense first set 30-28. Shaw was the hero of the opener, recording six kills without an error and coming up with big points in late spots. The two teams split the next two, but Princeton played its most complete set in the finale. Both Shaw and sophomore Billy Andrew were a perfect 3-for-3 on swings, and Princeton hit .333 in the 25-21 victory.
Junior Kurt Thiemann had nine kills and three blocks for Princeton, while Andrew had seven blocks to go along with his four kills. Junior Chris Kennedy had 43 assists, seven digs, five blocks and a pair of service aces in the win.
Both Alex Schindele-Murayama and Mike Fuerst had three kills apiece, while Michael Bagnell added seven digs.
Princeton will remain home next weekend for a pair of matches, including an important EIVA showdown with George Mason next Saturday at 7 pm.
