PRINCETON, N.J. (2/3/16) - The Princeton men's hockey teams hosts Colgate and No. 17 Cornell this weekend to Hobey Baker Rink. The Tigers take on head coach Ron Fogarty's alma mater on Friday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m., and the Big Red for an ECAC and Ivy League match on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m.
EYE ON THE TIGERSAfter being tripped up in losses to No. 7 Harvard and Dartmouth on the road last weekend, the Tigers look to return where it left off at Hobey Baker Rink - on a three-game unbeaten streak. Princeton defeated American International on Jan. 26 and tied both No. 20 Rensselaer and Union in the last three home games. The Tigers are 3-9-2 in the ECAC to sit in a 10th place tie with Colgate with eight points in the league standings, and overall is 5-14-2. It's youth that leads the Tigers offense with two freshman and two sophomores leading the charge. Freshman Ryan Kuffner has 14 points on four goals and a team-high 10 assists, while classmate Max Véronneau has a team-best seven goals and three assists. Sophomore David Hallisey has 10 points in 18 games, while Eric Robinson chips in six goals and two helpers for eight points. Junior Ryan Siiro also has eight points. Junior Colton Phinney owns every decision in goal for the Tigers. Phinney boasts a .926 save percentage and a 2.78 goals against average.
SCOUTING THE RAIDERS
Colgate is tied with Princeton in the ECAC standings with eight points on a 3-10-2 record. Overall the Raiders are 7-18-2 and are looking to snap a four-game losing skid. Last weekend Colgate dropped a 4-2 game at St. Lawrence and a 2-1 game at Clarkson. The Spink brothers lead the team in scoring with Tyson scored 11 goals and 17 assists for 28 points, while Tylor has five goals and 18 assists for 23 points. Senior Mike Borkowski has scored the most goals, 12 total, and adds five assists for 17 points. Sophomore Mike Panowyk chips in 15 points and senior Darcy Murphy has 14. Junior Charlie Finn has started in all but four games in net. He has a 3.36 GAA and an .895 save percentage.
THE PRINCETON/COLGATE SERIES
Colgate has won the last five meetings in the series and leads it 53-46-6 since it began in 1935. The Raiders won a 2-1 game back on Nov. 7 as Darcy Murphy scored the game winner with five seconds remaining. Tyson Spink made it 1-0 Colgate in the first before Eric Robinson tied it up in the second. Colton Phinney and Charlie Finn both stopped 30 shots apiece.
SCOUTING THE BIG RED
Cornell is ranked No. 17 in the USCHO poll and is receiving votes in the USA Today poll with an 11-7-3 overall record. With a 6-6-2 ECAC mark, the Big Red are seventh in the league standings. Cornell is looking to halt a four-game losing skid that includes matching 2-1 overtime losses at Clarkson and St. Lawrence last weekend. Junior Jeff Kubiak sits atop the scoring column with 17 points on six goals and 11 points, and has yet to take a penalty this year. Freshman Anthony Angello (PIT) has a team-high eight goals and seven helpers for 15 points, while classmate Mitch Vanderlaan has 13 points on six goals and seven assists.
