Squash Teams Return Home, Will Host Yale/Brown Doubleheaders On ILDN
February 04, 2016 | Men's Squash, Women's Squash
LIVE STREAM (All matches, all courts)
The Princeton men's and women's squash teams haven't played home matches since early December. Both will finally return to the Jadwin Courts this weekend to host a pair of Ivy League rivals to open the crucial month of February.
All matches on all courts both days will be streamed live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
The Princeton men will open competition both days, and they will do so looking to create a spark entering the final month of team play. The Tigers have lost their last six matches to teams all ranked in the current Top 7 nationally.
Naturally, they will open the weekend with the other Top-7 team. Fourth-ranked Yale will be in Jadwin for a noon start Saturday, while 16th-ranked Brown will open play Sunday at noon. The 11th-ranked Tigers continue to build around youth; the top three players for most matches this season have all been freshmen, while classmates William Oon and Adham El Sherbiny played near the bottom of the lineup last Sunday against No. 1 Trinity.
The third-ranked Tiger women, coming off a win over No. 4 Stanford last weekend, will host both sixth-ranked Yale and Brown this weekend. Both are scheduled for 2:30 starts, though both could begin later if the men's matches go longer.
The Princeton women are looking to defend their ranking over the next three weeks, though they know there are several challenges awaiting them, including both Yale and Trinity. While the Tigers have reigning All-Americas atop the lineup in Olivia Fiechter and Maria Elena Ubina, they have also seen freshmen achieve some early success. Both Samantha Chai and Isabel Hirshberg have made impacts during the Ivy League season.
Two players had noteworthy weekends for the Tiger women. Sophomore Kira Keating was the lone player to earn a win against Penn, and she won both matches of her weekend by 3-2 scores. Classmate Lindsey Scott was simply happy to be playing at all; she returned from a preseason injury to play her first two matches of the season at the No. 4 position.
