February 07, 2016 | Women's Ice Hockey
BOX SCORE
The Princeton women's hockey team is your 2015-16 Ivy League Champion! The No. 9 ranked Tigers blanked Cornell 5-0 this afternoon to capture the title with an 8-2 Ivy League record and 16 points.
It is the first Ivy League title for Princeton since 2006 and seventh in program history.
Though Princeton is the only team to have completed the Ivy schedule, no other team in the league can catch the Tigers in points. Harvard has 13 points with one game left, Cornell has seven points and four games left - leaving each with at most 15 possible points.
Senior Kelsey Koelzer had a three-point night with three helpers, while Loyd, Karlie Lund and Morgan Sly had two points apiece. Senior Kimberly Newell earned her 49th career making 30 saves.
Hilary Lloyd thought she had started her team off with a power-play goal less than three minutes into the game, but it was not able to be reviewed because of technical difficulties at Lynah Rink. Watch the play here
A scoreless first period resulted with Cornell outshooting Princeton 11-6 thanks to two power-play opportunities.
The Tigers sticks came alive in the second as they outchanced the Big Red 13-9 with two power plays of their own, converting on the second. Junior Morgan Sly delivered a beautiful feed to Cassidy Tucker for the back-door goal at 9:27 and senior Cristin Shanahan followed at 13:00 to make it 2-0.
