BOX SCORE
PRINCETON, N.J. (2/12/16) - A 30-save performance by senior netminder Kimberly Newell wasn't enough as No. 5 Clarkson defeated No. 8 Princeton 2-1 in women's hockey on Friday night at Hobey Baker Rink.
Brielle Bellerive's first goal of the season was the decisive goal coming at 6:43 of the third period.
As Princeton attempted to break the put out, Emma Keenan trapped it at the Princeton blue line and ripped a shot towards the goal where it deflected off her own teammate Rhyen McGill, who turned to push it to Amanda Titus in the slot. Titus skated in and went to her back hand for the go-ahead goal at 7:44 of the second period.
Junior defender Kelsey Koelzer answered seven minutes later with a power-play goal. It was all started by Newell who collected her first career point as she settled the puck behind the goal. Molly Strabley skated around to pick it up and fed Koelzer at the checkered red. Koelzer weaved her way through traffic and buried her 14th goal of the season, past Shea Tiley at 14:03.

A pad save by Newell on an attempt by Katelyn Founier sent the puck into the corner where it was gathered by Cassidy Vinkle and sent over to Bellerive who deked her defender and put the puck over the shoulder of Newell.
"We tried to not take penalites, which we did a pretty good job off," Princeton head coach Jeff Kampersal said. "We had some bad line changes and we actually didn't break the puck out very well. We still didn't generate enough shots because they play pretty good defense. We had two aggreious mistakes that they capitalized on, and that was it. Our goalie played great and she gave us a chance to win it and that's all I can ask for."
Clarkson outshot Princeton 32-18.
The Tigers were 1 for 3 on the power play and 2 for 2 on the penalty kill.
Princeton looks to rebound tomorrow when it hosts St. Lawrence at 3 p.m., in a special fundraiser day for former Tiger Denna Laing '14.
