LeBlanc Comeback Highlights 7-2 Squash Victory Over Brown
February 07, 2016 | Men's Squash
Senior Michael LeBlanc fought off one match ball, then another and another. And then, for fun, he fought off one more. In one of his final matches at the Jadwin Squash Courts, LeBlanc fought off four match balls and thrilled the home crowd with a 3-2 victory over Brown Sunday. That win highlighted a 7-2 Princeton victory, the Tigers' first win in Ivy League play.
LeBlanc's victory closed a strong effort by Princeton, which swept the opening shift and clinched the team win by the end of the second shift. Juniors Vivek Dinodia and Ben Leizman both picked up wins in the first shift, as did sophomore Abhimanyu Shah. Of the three, Leizman had the closest match; he took the opening game 13-11, and then after a third-game loss, he closed the match 11-4 in the fourth.
Princeton clinched the win in the second shift, as freshman William Oon and freshman Cody Cortes both took wins. Ezratty dropped the opening game at No. 8, but he won two tight games to open a 2-1 lead, and carried that momentum into a dominant 11-1 win in the fourth.
Sophomore Komron Shayegan grabbed the sixth win, thanks in large part to a 15-13 win in the second game at No. 4. He won 11-7 and 11-3 from there for a 3-1 win, and then all eyes turned to LeBlanc. He dominated the second and third games for a 2-1 lead, but Alex Demeulenaere came back to win the fourth and led 10-6 in the fifth.
That would be the end of the scoring for Demeulenaere; LeBlanc won six straight points to close the dramatic win.
Princeton will return to the Jadwin Squash Courts Friday afternoon for a showdown against Cornell. All courts will be streamed on the Ivy League Digital Network.
