BOX SCORE
The Princeton men's volleyball team went into the home of the reigning NCAA champion Loyola-Chicago Monday night and pushed the Ramblers through two tight sets, but the Tigers' inability to finish either one was their undoing in a 3-0 loss.
Princeton fell to 3-11 with the 25-22, 27-25, 25-19 loss and will play Loyola's 2015 NCAA championship opponent, Lewis, Wednesday night.
The opening two sets were remarkably close, though Loyola was able to play from ahead most of the way in the opener. Leading 19-18, the Ramblers won four of the next six points to lead by three, and they never let Princeton get within a point of tying the set.
That wouldn't be the case in the middle set, as the Tigers won four of six after a 20-20 tie to hold two set balls. Loyola got a kill and a block, and then another kill down 25-24, to force extra points, and they got a final block to close the 27-25 win. With momentum squarely on its side, Loyola grabbed a big lead midway through the third to close the win.
Princeton got nine kills from senior Devin Stearns, while classmate Zach Shaw added eight. Junior Chris Kennedy had 17 assists and four service aces, while sophomore Billy Andrew added four kills and a block.
