PRINCETON, N.J. (3/23/16) - Ivy League action resumes on Saturday in women's lacrosse as Princeton travels to Harvard for a noon game on March 26. The game will be streamed on the Ivy League Digital Network and will be aired on NESNplus in the New England area.
Eye on the TigersPrinceton is ranked No. 10 in this week's IWLCA coaches poll and No. 11 in the IWLCA media poll this week with a 4-2 record. The Tigers began the season 4-0 before suffering two setbacks to two top-10 teams in a matter of three days, falling at No. 6 Notre Dame16-11 and at No. 8 Penn State 14-10. Princeton is 1-2 against ranked teams this year after knocking off No. 4 Virginia in the season opener 14-7. The Tigers defeated Dartmouth 11-5 in the Ivy League opener on March 5. Junior Olivia Hompe has 28 points on 22 goals and six assists, while sophomore Abby Finkelston and senior Stephanie Paloscio contribute 12 points apiece. Senior Anya Gersoff chips in 11, with 10 points coming off of goals. Sophomore Ellie McNulty leads the team in draws with 11, with Gersoff right behind with 10. Junior Amanda Leavell and senior Liz Bananntine have caused the most turnovers with eight and seven, respectively. Junior Ellie DeGarmo is 4-2 in goal and has a .500 save percentage and a 10.03 goals against average. She also has the most ground balls on the team with 16.
The Series
Princeton has a 29-18 advantage in the all-time series against head coach Chris Sailer's alma mater. The Tigers have won the last four meetings, including two wins last year, a 17-12 win during the regular season before a 15-8 win in the Ivy League semifinals. The last time out in Cambridge, Princeton won a 15-6 game during the 2014 regular season. Harvard's last win was a 10-7 decision in April 2012.
Scouting the Crimson
Harvard is 5-2 overall and like Princeton is 1-0 in the Ivy League after a 15-6 win over Columbia back on March 5. Most recently Harvard defeated Holy Cross, 13-3 on Tuesday. Both of Harvard's losses have been to ranked teams, a 13-4 loss at No. 17 Stanford and a 16-9 loss to No. 4 Syracuse. Junior Marisa Romeo leads the offense with 16 goals and six assists for 22 points. Sophomore midfielder Julia Glynn adds 21 points on 11 goals and a team-best 10 assists. Junior Maeve McMahon has scored 13 goals and while freshman Keeley MacAfree has 13 points. Sophomore Nekele McCall and McMahon are the team leaders in draw controls, as both are in double digits with 16 and 10 respectively. Junior Megan Hennessey leads the team in ground balls with 22, while defensively Tory Waldstein has the most caused turnovers with 12. Senior Kelly Weis owns every decision in goal and has a .510 save percentage and a 9.04 GAA.
