PRINCETON, N.J. (3/29/16) - The five-game road swing continues for the Princeton women's lacrosse team as the No. 13-ranked Tigers travel to Loyola for a midweek game on Wednesday. Opening draw is slated for 7 p.m.
Eye on the Tigers
Princeton got back on track Saturday with 6-5 win at Harvard to improve to 2-0 in the Ivy League and 5-2 overall. The Tigers are ranked No. 13 in the IWLCA poll this week and No. 11 in the Inside Lacrosse media poll. Princeton averages 11.14 goals per game and holds teams to 9.29 gpg. Junior Olivia Hompe, who tallied her 100th career goal at Harvard, leads the team offensively with 32 points on 26 goals and six assists. Four players follow with 12 points apiece, including seniors Anya Gersoff, Stephanie Paloscio and sophomores Abby Finnkelston and Colby Chanenchuk. Chanenchuk has a team-best nine assists. Junior Amanda Leavell and senior Liz Bananntine have nine caused turnovers apiece, while junior Madelyn Rodriguez has 12 draw controls to lead the squad. Junior Ellie DeGarmo owns every decision in goal and has the most ground balls on the team with 18. She boasts a .534 save percentage and a 9.28 goals against average.
The Series
Princeton owns an 8-4 advantage in the all-time series, which dates back to 1989. The Tigers won the last meeting, a 10-8 game in Princeton last Feburary. The last time the teams faced off in Baltimore it was the Greyhounds taking the win, a 15-10 game, which snapped a six-game win streak for the Tigers in the series.
Scouting the Greyhounds
Loyola is 6-4 overall during a tough schedule which has included five nationally ranked squads. The Greyhounds are 2-3 in those games with wins over Johns Hopkins and Virginia and losses to Florida, Syracuse and Penn State. Loyola sits in first place in the Patriot League standings at a perfect 3-0, which includes a 10-6 win at Boston University on Saturday. Loyola averages 8.40 gpg and limits teams to 8.80. They convert on 27.5 percent of their free-position attempts, and 54 percent of their goals are assisted upon. Maddy Blakeman and Hannah Powers lead the offense with 28 and 27 points. Blakeman has 19 goals and nine assists, while Powers has 14 goals and a team-high 13 assists. Frankie Kamely matches Blakeman's 19 goals and adds two helpers. Sabrina Tabasso has 21 points as well on 12 tallies and nine assists. She also leads the team in draw controls with 20 and is in the top three on the team in caused turnovers (11) and ground balls (21). Molly Wolf has started in goal in all 10 games and has a .506 save percentage and an 8.73 GAA.
