PRINCETON, N.J. (3/12/16) - The Ivy League women's lacrosse season is upon us, as the Princeton women's lacrosse team hosts Dartmouth in the league opener on Saturday, March 5 at 1 p.m., on Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium.
Eye on the TigersPrinceton is 3-0 on the season and is ranked No. 9 in the IWLCA poll and No. 6 in the Inside Lacrosse media poll this week. The Tigers most recently held off Georgetown with a 10-9 victory, as senior Anya Gersoff scored a free-position goal with 7.4 seconds remaining in the game to keep her team undefeated. The Tigers average 13.33 goals per game and limit teams to just 8.33 gpg. Junior Olivia Hompe leads the offense with 14 goals and three assists for 17 points. Gersoff has seven goals, while sophomore Abby Finkelston has five goals and one assist. Senior Stephanie Paloscio has six point as well on three goals and three assists. Sophomores Ellie McNulty, Camille Sullivan and Colby Chanenchuk back up with four points apiece. Junior Ellie DeGarmo has started in net in all three games. She has a .579 save percentage and an 8.33 goals against average.
The Series
Princeton holds a 25-18 edge in the all-time series with Dartmouth. The Tigers have won the last two meetings, an 8-5 win in Hanover last year and a 12-10 win at Home in 2014. Dartmouth's last win in the series was an 11-10 double overtime victory in the semifinals of the 2013 Ivy League tournament.
Scouting the Big Green
Dartmouth enters the Ivy League season with a 3-1 record and is receiving votes in the latest Inside Lacrosse media poll. The Big Green's lone loss was a 16-6 defeat at No. 3 Florida on Feb. 27. This past Tuesday, Dartmouth earned a 15-13 win over Boston University. The Big Green average 12.50 goals per game, while allowing 10.25. Senior Jaclyn Leto is the team's leading scorer with 22 points on 20 goals and two assists - scoring 40 percent of her team's 50 goals. Junior Taryn Deck follows with 14 points on eight goals and team-best six assists. Freshman Elizabeth Mastrio and junior Courtney Weisse had eight points apiece, as each has scored five times and tallied three assists. Freshman Kathryn Giroux contributes six points. Leto, Mastrio and sophomore Larson Bennett are the big guns around the center circle as each is in double digits in draw controls, let by Leto's 13. Leto and junior Lauren Maiorano have the most caused turnovers on the team with five each. Freshman Charlotte Wahle has played every minute in goal and has a .414 save percentage and a 10.25 GAA with a team-high 12 ground balls. Lauren D'Amico is one ground ball back with 11.
